John Allan Nazareno, 25 Jan 2020Im actually quite alright on apple sticking to lightning port instead of usb-c. Its easy to di... moreThey removed it from IPAD pro , and it is still iOS.
Apple just wants to clar their "billions" of cables in stock then move to usb-C
John Allan Nazareno, 25 Jan 2020Im actually quite alright on apple sticking to lightning port instead of usb-c. Its easy to di... moreu realize the ipad pro uses usb c right? you do understand it makes no difference for the end user right? you do realize its because apple would have to eliminate their lightning cable production and reduced revenue from royalties from their lightning cable standard right? You do realize the report is from people who care about money and not the environment right? why do u need to differentiate apple product vs every other companies products?
The EU is rarely good for something. I'd normally side with the EU on this one, but nope, we need freedom. If Apple buyers are dumb enough to buy it, let them do it, to each his own, they know pretty well what they're getting into.
Note7 owner, 24 Jan 2020I have to agree here, having only one standard will make people lazy and see no reason to sear... moreA very poor analogy you've provided. Does not align with the subject.
CompactPhones5ever, 25 Jan 2020"Apple commissioned a study, which found that the move to a single standard will incur costs o... moreWe have no scientific evidence from that study other than the headline figure so let's not jump to conclusions. An Apple funded/commissioned study is obviously going to favour the narrative Apple is pushing after all.
It's not only about the environmental impact but also the convenience for end users. That is something Apple isn't disclosing :)
In fact, it's Apple's stubborn insistence on a proprietary smartphone charger that's harming consumers, producing thousands of e-waste and thus destroying the environment. Way to go EU, please enforce a common charger for all mobile devices: smartphones, tablets, music players etc.
Costs of 1.3 billion? More like loss in profit due to customers not buying their sh** accessories
John Allan Nazareno, 25 Jan 2020Im actually quite alright on apple sticking to lightning port instead of usb-c. Its easy to di... moreI forgot about the lightning to USB adapter. So, you, the Apple user, are forced into buying a charger or an adapter. Either way, Apple is milking you of some money that otherwise would be spent at your own free will, probably on somebody else's hardware. It all comes down to that. Imagine having to buy different power sockets for each appliance you have in the house. It's exactly the same thing.
John Allan Nazareno, 25 Jan 2020Im actually quite alright on apple sticking to lightning port instead of usb-c. Its easy to di... moreNo offense inteded, but you are blind. The charger (and it's connectivity) has nothing to do with the operating system. It's only a means for trasnfering power into a battery. As for data transfer, that is happening over standardized protocols, which also have nothing to do with any operating system. But Apple will loose some good bucks if users won't be forced in buying their chargers.
CompactPhones5ever, 25 Jan 2020"Apple commissioned a study, which found that the move to a single standard will incur costs o... moreWhy do you defend one of the major promoters of nearly irrepairable design language in consumer electronics landscape?
tomo100brt, 25 Jan 2020Well, we must by charger for every phone, about three per phone, and that coast money. And wha... moreDon't tell these shills that the EU also played a part wrt to the industry's adoption of micro USB.
John Allan Nazareno, 25 Jan 2020Im actually quite alright on apple sticking to lightning port instead of usb-c. Its easy to di... morecause android phones are phones and ios phones are I-PHONES right?
is it really that hard to think that a phone can be charged by any charger?
Why does Google get fined, but Apple doesn't?
CompactPhones5ever, 25 Jan 2020"Apple commissioned a study, which found that the move to a single standard will incur costs o... moreWell, we must by charger for every phone, about three per phone, and that coast money. And what inpact will that be on ecology. Increase of plastic waste. Would it be nice to have one tipe of charger and not to worry will you forgot your charger? And one charger for every new phone you buy. That means less plastic waste.
Im actually quite alright on apple sticking to lightning port instead of usb-c. Its easy to distinguish what is for android and IOS.
And I own the only Apple product with usb c port
"Apple commissioned a study, which found that the move to a single standard will incur costs of €1.5 billion, far greater than the predicted €13 million in environmental benefits."
This perfectly describes EU behaviour since the whole eco-mania began. All these idiotic ecological regulations strangling succesful bussinesses which only makes Europe lag behind US and China who don't give a f*ck about environment. All these ecological warriors saving the planet by banning plastic straws while EU presents only negligible percentage of global plastic waste. Losing hundreds of millions in enforcing things that help nothing in global scale, only so they can pat themselves on the back for 'doing something'. I'm not saying global warming and all aren't problem, but the way EU enforces it on its people is shooting itself in the foot.
The Last Oracle, 25 Jan 2020Maybe it's time the EU said bye bye to Apple and invested in developing it's own smartphones. ... moreGreat idea...
I don't see a problem if Apple sticks with Lightning. It's about not changing the standards constantly, even if they are different.
