They changed from a 30 pin to their current standard six years ago. Rich how Apple are complaining that it'll cost them money. The changes will affect customers the most like it did then.
Though unlike then, USB-C isn't a new standard. It's been around a few years now and the market has existing USB-C accessories. The transition shouldn't be as painful (unlike Lightning which was completely new)

When was the last time an innovation in chargers had anything to do with the physical connector?
why would it be "troublesome for consumers"? ultra-expensive iPhones are the only phones with a proprietary connector and even budget Androids are beginning to move to USB-C
So even the cheapest budget phone or tablet that costs 100$ or even less will come with an USB-C port and charger?!
