Whathell, 19 Apr 2012Well,option #3 seems more logical than the others, because only the Facebook fellas will be ab... morea fake voter would only make 2 or 3 accounts max. And everyone has a facebook account so it shouldn't effect that much
Ps. When i say log in i mean log into gsmarena actual account and not a facebook account then once u have a gsmarena account u can if u want link ur facebook to it, but even if u dont link ur facebook u can still vote coz u have a gsmarena.
Pps i didnt even know i could vote lol
Voting should be by the users not unknowm.. so its better vote to be accepted only after entry of valid serial number of device.
Registered users only should be used for pretty much any voting system. That one's obvious. Here are a few other rip-offs you might want to consider, since you're thinking of ripping off the Facebook system:
- Something like Reddit: if something receives a ton of only positive or only negative votes in a short amount of time, the system counters by putting in a bunch of votes in the opposite direction.
- Something like Board Game Geek: system automatically inserts a certain number of "medium" ratings to normalize the score (5.5 is the one BGG uses, I believe).
2 or 3. Look, I don't go to pages of phones I don't like and don't vote 1-1-1 for them (OK, I did once or twice, I admit). But then, look at Nokia 808 ratings. People come there (you know who you are), they have no arguments and vote 1-1-1 day after day and they ruin it for people who give honest ratings. Sometimes I give 10-10-10 just to lift the vote up, but it's useless mathematically speaking.
create a percentage bar for three categories :design of the phone, features of the phone and performance of the phone. where the user would choose a percentage from each category so that not all votes are the same. 100% is for perfect and 0% is for useless.
i kinda think option 2 is a good 1... But its gonna be more effective if it used the voting style of option 3 and also the addition of another voting system just for the admins i.e. the editor's rating will help differentiate user experience on both sides... Hope this helps
Option 1: not useful i've started ignoring your rankings
Option 2: Very few will bother logging in and voting, will cause geeky phones to have a higher score
Option 3: I don't understand how exactly you're trying to achieve it, but one should be able to give opinion on many because these days people experience a lot more than a singular phone.
Person who has internet access and sure have a wish to vote for phone, must have Facebook account. Simple: Internet = Facebook; Facebook = accurate voting. It is solution 2. for me. End yes, start form scratch to make some useful results. Make it simple, but make it solid. Still, best site for mobile devices.
option 2, and make a filter only one vote per phone, in this way the results will be more realistic..
Second option is okay, but i prefer a reliable vote from the editors of GSMArena.com.
I think if u have to log in to vote then u can limit them to 1 vote per person unless they r dumb enough to make many accounts just to vote again but if they r then they will get bored and it will prevent them to keep doin it :)
Well, you can force the user to "comment" on the rating he gave the phone, in this case, it will be easier to tell if it was a spam or not from the comment itself!
Or else, YOU GSMarena do the rating and leave all this "fanboy" childish behaviour behind!
I for one, trust your rating, based on your reviews and previews, I am sure you know what is good and what is not!
Well, option #3 seems more logical than the others, because only the Facebook fellas will be able to vote, and that narrows it down I believe.
But the fake voters will open new Facebook accounts to vote for their favorite... and the one and only purpose of the voting system will be again compromised.
you make an aplication on OS mobile for voting. and for example: I have Xperia ray and I can vote for my phone only, my whife has Galaxy S II and she may vote for her phone only.
with this system you will be able to do more interesting statistics.
good luck !
