The sensor used is a 5X periscope at 48mp which can achieve 10x lossless crop zoom due to high mp lens. Hence samsung marketing it as 10X optical.
And I believe they will have 30x lossless zoom.
And zoom is maxed out at 100x

Many people don't know that at the same field of view pixel size has nearly no effect on noise in good light conditions without shadow areas. For good light conditions that don't have dark shadows, the noise performance of a single exposure depends approximately on (Pixel size)² x (number of megapixels) x (exposure time) / (f-number)² = (sensor area) x exposure time / (f-number)². This formula can often be even valid for low-light conditions, this depends on the technology of the sensor.
Furthermore, if it's a 64 megapixel sensor, the sensor area will be large (41mm²). A 80mm equivalent crop of a 50mm equivalent 64 megapixel camera would capture twice(!) as much light in perfect light conditions than Huawei's 80mm camera! So in perfect light conditions the noise performance would be theoretically even better than Huawei's 80mm camera!
You know, I actually commented weeks ago that if 108MP camera is a 9into1, a 12Megapixel one, than maybe the 8k video will come from another camera on the same phone.
Plus, it was me who suggested 108MP downsizing into 12 MP first.
How am I getting so many things right? I should start the guesswork business, its gonna do awesome for me. :D

I guess all leakers seem to be getting the specs wrong and are most likely either being misled by Samsung or just making some very poor guesses.
8K resolution (in Non Cinema DCI) consists of 7680 x 4320 pixels (4320p - or the equivalent of 33.2 Megapixels). So, one Does Not Need 64MP for shooting 8k. Also, the 64MP sensor probably does Full Res at 15 or 30fps, so it may be INSUFFICIENT for shooting 8k video. Samsung may have a New Sensor that does like 36-40MP. Also, if the 64MP sensor does 8k, it will either have a substantial crop or downressing in video, one of which will reduce the field of the view, and the other which may introduce rolling shutter artefacts (and other issues).
Also, I am guessing, that if there isn't a new sensor that does 8k, maybe all the S20 models don't have 8k, and only the absolute top end does?
Right now, the image sensors in the S20 are the industry's best kept secrets, I guess.

I think these leaks are wrong. These leaks are illogical. Lets wait for the actual product.

But I wish if the 108mp isn't very good(iPhone level) at video Samsung should include a dedicated sensor focused on videography only.

Now this make sense as 12mp can't do 8k. Though I am guessing this rumor is wrong and 8k might be exclusive to the S20 Ultra.

By the way ... S7, s8 , s9 and s10 all have different sensors. Each generation got a new one.

Haha 8k video on a 6 inch screen.
It will be like mounting a tractor tyres on a peugeot 206 or something like that.
The motor dies as soon as it makes few photos showing zero battery.

Good to see the 108mp HM1 sensor being twice as big as the one in p30 pro.
Plus the 12mp IMX 555 also looks like a good main sensor to complement the 64mp telephoto.

Nick Tagataka, 29 Jan 2020You might be right about your first statement about the lens' resolving power, but I disagree ... moreThe Honor View 20 used multi frame image processing or a super resolution algorithm with its Ultra Clarity mode. The results were better, but not as good as a traditional 48 megapixel sensor. No other manufacturer has tried this.
In perfect light conditions without dark shadows (and when you don't underexpose) the pixel size is not really important regarding noise at the same field of view because this kind of noise is random. And at the same field of view each noisy, small pixel uses a smaller percentage of the field of view than a large pixel. This effect compensates the increase in noise per pixel.

There is no current info on this. How did you come to the conclusion that it doesn't do 8k?
You better worry about your Sony not being able to do 4K60.

The same way labeling the first phone to offer 8k@30fps footage to be bad quality is unfair.
Afcourse it ain't gonna do that well in low light.
Every manufacturer sucks with Ultrawide lens in low light.
Only Huawei and the ones with gcam can extract good low light through Ultrawide
I bet other manufacturers ain't gonna give 8k this year. Definitely not to be expected from Pixel & iPhone.
Sony doesn't even give 4K60 out of the box.
