I have no problem with Google and have no problem with them using Google services, but this means they can't be controlled by the US government, so I like what they're doing. It secures their future.

Not gonna lie that's quite the genius move. If this works out it'll work out big time.

If Huawei can get in other Chinese phone makers to this ecosystem, it'll be a big blow to Google.

Hm, that means internal sales only, Huawei. No one will be interested with Huawei phones outside China unless they will be damn great and dirt cheap at the same time.

This. Is. Awesome.

There was a time when Android was new and had to claw it's way to where it is now. Same goes for Apple. And now we're stuck with the same stuff over and over again. I'm pretty stoked that we will soon have a 3rd party (grapes) to offset our Apple or orange choice. I understand not everyone loves Huawei and I'm not trying to sway your opinion (buy whatever makes you happy), but moving on from just two choices is a great thing. Prices should actually go down instead of up for a change.

I am still rocking out a P10 Plus. No, my identity has not been stolen by the evil Chinese spies the US government loves to portray Huawei as. Also I love that the US (home of the brave, land of the free) is still too cowardly to give Huawei it's day in court. God forbid the United States actually present any of this evidence it says it has. Just saying if you make a big accusation like that, you better be able to back it up. Otherwise that's beginning to look a lot like defamation.

Moving on....
The battery in my P10+ is still rock solid, the camera is still very good (given that it's roughly three years old), and I'm just generally happy with the durability and longevity of my handset. I'm really looking forward to the release of the P40 series, and I'm curious to see how it stacks up against the previous generation. And I am especially curious to see Huawei's new OS (doubt it will ship this series), and what the new app-store looks like.
Good stuff Huawei, keep it up!!

Petrica, 31 Jan 2020If google will stop making Android open source, then it's bye bye Huawei. And it should, this op... moreGoogle does not make the open source version of android, the open source community does.
It only adds the GMS to it, so AOSP will survive even without Google, yes it contributes to the AOSP as well but do other companies and individuals.

Huawei assumes that Google will still add yearly features to open ASOP but Google is not going to add features to something that it cannot make a profit from and allow its rival to benefit from its hard work.

Google could cease adding new features/functions to open Android and force manfactures/devices to upgrade in its Play Store.

Take that, Huawei!

It's still using Android just not Google but that's kind of an L. Google is by far the best company in software going from it's user interface in apps to the functionality. Google is the reason I'm not even on iOS and I know some huawei diehard fans won't like this but most people won't use an Android phone without Google services no matter which alternative you make at least not for the next 3-5 years.Sure it will sell like crazy in China keeping the company alive but a lot of people dropped huawei mate 30 because of the lack of services which was easily installable at first until Google discovered that backdoor I think but now they're not going back to Google they'll take a huge loss and this is just boasting as far I'm concerned cause the ban wasn't coming down anytime soon

Kudos to Huawei for this decision. There is definitely a need to shake up Google's monopoly on mobile OS. There has been lots of attempt before (Windows 10 Mobile, BlackBerry 10, Ubuntu Touch, etc.) but no one can beat Google.

I'd rather have the new OS from Huawei than an OS being fined on lawsuit. Just saying

App developers are just like almost everybody else, greedy and lazy, money talks, if huawei pay enough, most devs will go for the extra cash..
It's about time one of the big, well cashed Asian firms gave Google etc the finger, alphabet/Google are the same as devs etc, greedy lazy thieving bastards, I've had longer involvement than all of you in the development and advance of android, I have regretted my involvement for the last 8 years.
If anyone has the balls/cash/clout to try for another OS, I suggest you all buy into it, if only to not be reliant on anything from la la Yankee land, alphabet is now totaly about money and will work for anyone that pays them to, alphabet and trump level presidents should scare everybody, not just phone fans..

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020They started with NM (Nano Memory) instead of microSD, next is HMS instead of GMS, and furt... moreHa ha CoV...seems like Huawei is trying to follow Apple by providing several proprietary features that are only locked to Huawei phones. Fortunately Huawei's flagships are cheaper than both Apple and Samsung's.

I just really hope that certain apps which demand GMS to work like banking apps work for Huawei. If in the future the situation is remedied and Huawei can continue to provide awesome phones like the P30 and Honor Play, I will consider buying one over Samsung's phones like the S20.

Huawei playing the victim card. Google and other companies were banned in China long before the U.S. started the ban on Huawei. No point in defending China!
