Why a phone needs 12GB of RAM is beyond me, just tells me (and you can Google it) that Android is still horrible at RAM management / garbage collection as it always had been. Also, these scores do not match the A13.. not even close single core, but close multi. Really shows the advantages of SoC architecture design vs. on-paper specs. And yes, I understand benchmarks are synthetic - but they represent raw compute power cross platform. Real world also showed iOS taking the lead in almost all cases. Only reason to get this is if you are an Android die-hard like I used to be :) miss the days of ROM flashing and no e-fuses..

I still can't believe how they killed the one thing that seriously set them apart to the pro crowd (well they did kill removable batts some time ago, but at least *that* was making financial sense to them).

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020Yeah they should have dedicated vram instead of 12gb shared 8gb and 4gb setup Desktop RAM consumers too much power to work on mobile.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if that alleged Exynos graphics AMD is working on could have some custom memory solution. Obviously not GDDR6 or HBM, but maybe something with higher bandwidth dedicated memory?

Games like this that have just come out on mobile are starting to push the processing and ram but 12gb fornite uses about 1.5 gb to 2.5 at peak if these games continue to increase then its sensible but in standard cases you never gonna use 12gb ram

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020I don't, it's actually 3GB; on an iPhone X. Believe what you want.Yeah you can do that on iOS but not on Android. On Android, the more RAM the better.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020I don't, it's actually 3GB; on an iPhone X. Believe what you want.Ah, Apples and Oranges? On Android, there is really a 6GB minimum, to have plenty of apps held. That said, my Gamepass app is terrible for needing to reload. Though ,I only have 4GB, I expect better when I am otherwise a light user.

A simple rule to follow is to get at least double the RAM of your GPU. Desktop graphics comes with humongous amounts of RAM these days. The imminent next-gen cards will be available with up to 20GB graphics memory.
If you do complex multi threading your memory needs obviously sky rockets beyond that.

Europe, 31 Jan 2020Won’t use exynos we just don’t buy it. snapdragon 865 is crap as well because it must use external modem for any network, including 4G.
I will skip s20 anyway. the screen ratio is ridiculous and it's heavier than my current s9.
if apple se2 is small and cheap as rumored, i expect Samsung will release s20e in q2 or q3. i might be interested in this.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020I don't believe you don't get killed apps with just 4 GB RAM.12 GB in smartphone is ridiculously overkill.
Desktop windows 10 os only consumes less than 2.5 GB RAM. Opening 1+ millions records excel sheet only takes 700 MB RAM.
Even heavy games in windows consumes less than 4GB.
So, even 8 GB are very adequate for most windows desktop use cases.
