Anonymous, 03 Feb 2020iPhone already have 120Hz touch sample. 120 refresh rate will match that response.
It will... moreRog 2, sharp phones, the upcoming Nubia all have 240hz touch input and above. IPhone is locked at 60hz native refresh rate.
Lowest latency (half of that of iPhone and others) in ROG 2 plus optimization under the hood making it better than any other high refresh rate phone out there.
IPhone 11 is pretty ordinary .

It will... moreios has the most annoying toggle settings in a mobile os ever. everything turns itself on and you have to go to the settings to access certain settings wheres in android you can do it right away
Only people that haven't used a high refresh rate screen voted that 60 hz is all they need.
NO! Voted 60hz. Yeah refresh rate is mostly subjective, but I think on smaller display like smartphone powered by a limited energy source the answer 60hz is all you need is more objective than subjective! The con of less battery is a huge con. On pc or TV more refresh is needed and better, you notice more the change and don't have to worry about battery, but on smartphone more refresh for what? Play games? Seriously? Smartphone games? Or even films? Not even scrolling and transition from window to window is a big deal to even eye care/safety, just use less smartphone. (I use smartphone at 360°, camera, some games, some film/videos/series sometimes, music, maps, messaging/mail/call and mostly reading book/websites/news)
iPhone already have 120Hz touch sample. 120 refresh rate will match that response.
It will aid in reading of ebooks, websites, social apps.. less ghosting. iOS battery impact on such a feature will be minimum. One can look at iPad Pros. Turn off ProMotion. Turn on ProMotion (by limit frame rate option) battery drain is minimum.
iOS uses wifi / bluetooth / gps transparently in the background, everything is controlled firmly by the OS. So i believe after a few upgrade versions, iOS will ultimately optimize this 120hz.
Android is moving slowly to this, showing all running services, optimizing battery, unfortunately, support will drop in 2 years or so, therefore phones you buy now will likely never reach its full potential. Unless tons of battery is added to the phone, i bet it will be bad battery life and poor implementation on android.. especially those slim phones without jack.. and notches.
I picked the last one not because I think 60hz is enough but because HFR is not my priority. I don't mind buying a phone with more than 60hz, but it is not my priority. If A phone has 60hz + ois cam and B with 120hz + non ois cam, I would pick A. The feature that I need to have that still is not common (for whatever stupid reason) is NFC. No NFC = no buy. The rest are feature that I want -> ois, wide angle cam, that new bluetooth codec (aptx adaptive and hq mic audio through bluetooth, oled screen, 5G, no notch (yes, this is a feature), headphone jack, 90hz or more screen. There are probably some features that I forgot to add, but for certain, 90hz screen is at the bottom of my wanted feature.
AnonD-558092, 02 Feb 2020PC and Console games struggle to run at a stable 120fps with all but the most powerful compone... morethe answer is screen size. have you compared the average pc monitor size to a phones? that, and phone processors are plenty powerful now.
Typical gimmicks in already stagnating of innovations mobile market. Like pixel density hertz war another useless feature in your phone list. Besides few games which support 120hz what you going to do with it? Dont tell me you going to pretend you a hard core PC gamer and will connect keybiard and mouse to play few shooters on 5 inch screen? Good luck. For phone makers it is viable to show they keep improving our phone but definitely for consumers it is another wasted feature you barely going to use it.
other than smooth motion , does it offer other benefit?
does it drain more battery? can it reduce eye strain?
AnonD-558092, 03 Feb 2020Why yes it's true. My whole point was that this isn't something truly groundbreaking, somethin... moreIf you don't think itz groundbreaking or useful, dial it back to 60hz.
Your points got drowned in a sea of comments coz they were unreasonable and have been already debunked.
-120hz consumes too much battery compared to 60hz: DEBUNKED.
-120hz display is useless coz majority games don't support it: DEBUNKED.
-Phones can't push games at 120fps: DEBUNKED
-Not much difference when used for anything other than games: DEBUNKED.
-120hz phones add significant increase in price of phones: DEBUNKED.
-120hz display causes burn in issues on majority OLED PANELS(another assumption) after few years: DEBUNKED.
Go use one (120hz phone) for a week and then come back and talk to me but you won't do that since it will destroy that fantasy bubble of yours. It's always the 60hz brigade pointing to 120hz as useless since the grapes are sour.
Definitely not for me. I have used both 90 and 120 Hz display phones. If you are upgrading to a 90 Hz display phone, there is very minimal difference and you won't notice it. However, in 120 it takes a huge leap and it feels next level. Only upgrading to 120 from 60 Hz display makes sense.
I will wait till 5G technology coupled with 120 Hz display becomes mainstream and cost efficient.
Its a feature, but like monitor PCs its more of a niche feature.
iOS is perfectly fine. Android definitely no.
Android OS is highly un-optimized. Having this feature will only cause more grief. iOS have already implemented it perfectly in iPad Pros.
Furiounx, 02 Feb 202090hz is the sweet spot. 120hz is just unnecessary for a phone. You sir, are one of the rare rationalised commenter in the community. I wholeheartedly agree with you. 90hz is fine, 120hz is just a shill.
256GB is uncalled for, unless you are a social media tycoon or musical purist that only listens to files on lossless format.
And there shouldn't be a rush to adopt 5G. Because every bloody new technology experience something called the "teething" problem, and it takes another 1 to 2 generation before things settle down.
It hilarious to see people herding for the latest tech, and then turning around to bite back when they hit the brickwalk.
A waste of battery to me. If my phone ever comes with a >60hz mode, I'm going to disable it to get good battery life instead.
Furiounx, 03 Feb 2020Lol why the burst of passive agression? And no, I do not think that 256gb is unnecessary, nor ... moreThen stop making cringy statements like "hurrr, this 120hz is too much for a phone".
Look at it in a good way, people will get the choice of using different refresh rates! If you use 60hz you get better battery life, while 120hz gives smoother experience.
Phones are to call and text people not for games, 60 is more than enough. Above 60 everything is an extra charge marketing, totally senseless. Its like you buy an X stuff with and without RGB LED, it doesnt give you anything extra. Its the same, just trying to use the weak people for a little extra cash.
If you want to play on your 60Hz panel, dont use oled phone, the burned picture is going to be a disaster.
but if the 120hz screen framedrop happen too much..isnt it better to have steady fps like 60pfs? too much framedrop caused eyestrain and dizziness. Correct me if im wrong

My whole point was that this isn't something truly groundbreaking, something so good you must change your device for it. But I guess my point was drowned when this conversation turned into a flame fight. Curse you Internet!
GAMIRSFM, 03 Feb 2020Asphalt 9 runs at 60fps on high end phones. And that game looks like a console port.I played it and not really. They're using the high speed gameplay to use lower quality graphics, which is TBH a smart technique. But you don't normally notice it if you're focusing on playing. Too much is going on in Asphalt 9 to think about something else than playing. It's just "good enough" to not be bothersome and "bad enough" to run smoothly.
