Old phones used to have these to protect the camera lens from ... moreyeah, back when the camera lenses were actually scratch-able, these days you have virtually no chance to scratch it unless you're wearing diamonds in your pocket. These days it would server nothing except for an excuse to ask an extra 20$ for the phone.
