AnonD-909757, 16 Feb 2020Not a big loss, most smartphone nowaday are the same : Punch hole or teardrop notch and no ... moreWell, MWC is more than just an ordinary event. Investment, important meeting, revenue on the go, and others (socio-economics factors) are more than just meet the general eye. It's also the time where small-present companies to showcase theirs (time, products/services). By GSMA cancelling MWC due COVID-19, all who have participated, including small companies, suffered a loss that should be profit in the first place. Sure, online is a thing and a great alternative method to do unveiling products. But, MWC is still important for those who needs recognition for something out of the box goods they came up with. This is the same as IFA, CES, GIMS, etc.
.
And still, some technology you see now, won't ever see the broaden daylight of mainstream if Sony didn't put it first. 960fps and battery-saving technology are few of them. Maybe a gimmick for you, but then, technology won't be moved, if someone doesn't make it... You didn't see Sony making a lot of moves in first glance as Sony is very undercover in presence showcasing their sometimes mind-blowing innovation. And side FPS is way reliable than Under-display FPS, as they're much better in terms of reliability and quality. Under display FPS still needs smoothing, especially Ultrasonic one. Did you miss the news where S10 and Note10 series except S10e, have troubles due to UD FPS? It's one of proof UD FPS still needs more fix.

Xperia 5 Plus is most likely the Xperia 1 4K successor or S20+ equivalent. Who knows if we will see rumored Xperia 0 the S20 Ultra counterpart, maybe they'll save that for June or something or maybe it will never see the light of the day.

What we can expect is Xperia 1 mkII, some sublflagship like Xperia 5 or 5G midranger and Xperia 10 mkII. I expect 3 phones to be announced in less than ten days from now.

Rplayer, 16 Feb 2020Thanks for news And i have suggestion for mobile details and its write if phone have dolby ... moreThank for the suggestion. It is a rather interesting one, since we actually used to list Dolby Atmos, as well as a few other similar certifications in specs up until a few weeks ago. We consciously decided against showing them, however, since they tend to really be misleading, the main false assumption being that if a phone has Dolby of some sorts, it also has a stereo speaker setup. In fact, this is not the case and most of these certifications mostly come down to a set of equalizers on the phone. Nothing beyond that. However, if you still want to get tot that information for some reason, it is still actually searchable. If you go to the advanced phone finder and enter “Dolby” in the free text field, the results will be relevant. Hope this helps.

Not a big loss, most smartphone nowaday are the same :

Punch hole or teardrop notch and no kind of other front facing sensors such as secured 3D face scanning, proximity and ambient light sensors, frontal floodlight.
I am sure some will have the SD865 + indisplay fingerprint reader but won't even take advantage of the 865 support of dual fingers reader.
Most will have all 4 satnav system (GPS, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS) but still won't support the upgraded variant (GPS L1+L5, BeiDou B1, Galileo E1+E5a, GLONASS L1) or Wi-Fi 6 and even those who do won't even stay ready for the incoming Wi-Fi-6E on 6Ghz even if it require almost no change to be already compatible...Hell some won't even support WPA-3 !
While they all already have the stupid 5G support, a tech that is nowhere near ready, not even starting to be exploitable, still have so much issues, including its bandwidth (which is supposed to be its strong point as otherwise it don't have any advantage over 4G) and could be harmful for peoples and other tech, by the time it will be customer ready and able to be used properly, all the smartphone that got released with 5G support will have obsolete hardware as many upgrades or changes may be necessary to the antenna size, materials, location, bus and more...All that for a tech with a ridiculously weak range, low penetration and high sensitivity to weather (way more than 4G) to get a bandwidth that isn't necessary at all (I reach 150MB/s on LTE-A and this is way more than enough) while all the 5G budget could be used to upgrade and increase the 4G tech and coverage and install more and quicker Optical Fiber.
Worse of all, all those phone with the stupid curved edge display ! Customers keep disliking it and manufacturers keep putting it everywhere...

The only interesting one in this list ? Here :
The Oppo Find X2 was about to be the most amazing, mostly since they discarded the stupid and useless underdisplay camera, they could have reverted to the amazing pop up camera system with all the sensors, but they downgraded to punch hole.
Sony is still 100 years behind with side fingerprint scanner, no advanced face unlock and a narrow display format that only make it a pain to use wallpapers or watch video and fullscreen apps, and are barely starting adopting fast charging tech now, and while everyone already has 4000mAh battery for over a year and will now probably get over 4500, Sony finally decided to switch to 4000...
The Vivo Apex 2020 while they could have put pop up camera again have gone to the stupid underdisplay camera which is the worse for privacy, require tons of post treatment, is incredibly bad for face unlock, put a weak spot on the screen (visually and resistance), can't allow for floodlight and is terrible for the regular, cheap and great ambient light and proximity sensors...

So yeah, the MWC cancellation being a divine punishment or Karma for doing stupid phone wouldn't even surprise me at this point.
An event where nothing really new or interesting was planned being cancelled isn't a problem at all.

IMHO this may be a very nice marketing shakeup.

Why bother with conferences now that you can do everything virtually, w/o real people even, and then just slap ads all over the place and maybe give out 1 1/2 review units?
Similarly, why release new models instead of milking the same one at release price with subpar (even for release) specs for even longer?

Vendors might enjoy this approach

To be honest, the one phone I was most interested in was the new Red Magic, the Lenovo gaming phone interests me to but I figure that wasn't being shown.

I did see that Nubia were gonna announce the RM 5G domestically but they haven't said when...

Rplayer, 16 Feb 2020Thanks for news And i have suggestion for mobile details and its write if phone have dolby ... moreI understand I have actually added myself to what you have said, but it's more effective and recommended by GSMArena to make suggestions for improving the site at their support email in the contact us section. I'm just a user, but thanks for contributing (as it affects all of us).

The comment is unrelated to the article and could be deleted, but I have no other way to tip Rplayer but to answer here or at the other instance of his request at the S20 Ultra 5G specs page.

I second more audio information would be good as RPlayer said. DTS:X is included in some specs pages, so seeing Dolby Atmos where available would be a nice addition. Also, I know general DAC information is so scarce that even if it could be found it wouldn't be really useful, but LG's Quad DAC could be added; should there be no review like in the Q70 we can't know if there is one without going to other sites.

For now, 3 has confirmed the time of release, with 2 being specifically (Sony and Realme). Can't wait what they bring on the table. Hopefully, the rest with "TBA" status could release theirs sooner than later.
