It would be based on a commercial scale but targeted at a specific audience, usually advanced users or users which want to bring back nostalgia or regain the confidence and assurance of what a physically and personally removed battery from a device can provide with the hope that advertising should increase awareness and gain wider popularity.
If I remember correctly, you also had some interesting ideas but I don't remember if it was you or a different, also long-time Gsmarena user.
flixable oled was always shown as rollable. there is nothing new tech about this and it not harder to make than any other foldables from my pov. its just a differnt hinge at its basic. absolutely nothing new.
Fume, 19 Feb 2020Yes!! FINALLY a new tech...if it is real..it would be awesome..something worth the money...hopefully*something worth an insane huge amount of money, no thanks...
Next best thing is make this phone around 4.5". When you slide screen it goes bigger. Like a dream...
From top view, Left side slides in & out the top display, Right side does the pulling..???

I didn't expect someone will display my imagination concept that early, i was thinking of it since the first folding phone and i wasn't convinced that the folding tech is the best solution for this expandable display matter.
i think slide-out/rolled-up screen is the best possible iteration of bendable screen technology.
a normal phone screen that is available all the time, not a useless 2nd screen on the outside. Then a bigger, tablet-size screen when you want it. The Razr/fold/flip are just fashion experiments, they aren't practical in any way in real life.
Trump's ban hammer is coming
This seems like an interesting idea. Patents are already there by other companies for the same though.
What stands out is how nice it looks. Simply gorgeous.
Dust..
Interesting since Samsung already has a patent for exactly the same concept. The display actually rolls behind the main plate of the phone.
And LG also filed a similar patent 3-4 years ago
Not a bad idea, I actually like it. If you think about it, it would have to have smaller plate build in and that one is pulling out with possible screen wrapped around one of the sides and part of the back. Once extended, the side and back panel would roll facing forward.
It would be very fragile in the extended state I would say as the internal plate would extend out and leave a millimeter on each side of the phone and the parts within to move around. It would have to be really well sealed. I still like the challenge and it would be the most innovative idea up to day.

travstr, 18 Feb 2020I mean a smaller screen that becomes larger isn't something I would complain about.I would. When you unfold it, it is still a usual oversized smartphone and I definitely loathe oversized smartphones. I definitely much prefer the designs like the RAZR 2019 or the Galaxy Z Flip.
When closed, the screen will roll to the back, hidden inside the case. When slide out, the screen get pulled out. Simple :D

This is the only viable form factor to carrying a phone in your pocket. Fold will always have crease and will be to fat. The screen simply rolls up on a spring loaded roller like a window shade.
