Hildr, 25 Feb 2020Say goodbye to your beloved glass unibody design then. Welcome the good ol' plastic back!
I w... moreI don't think you know what unibody means. Also glass is a horrible material for phone backs. It blocks heat and is very fragile, is a fingerprint magnet and scratches are very visible.
I don't see why glass backs wouldn't be removable though.

Will, 25 Feb 2020That sucks for us in the UK then ☹️How so? You think the phone companies will manufacture a different variant of the same phone for other parts of the world? lol
This is why the Brexit is so stupid - they are not leaving the EU, they are just giving up the power to change EU policies.

You can't make a law to overcome this fact any more than you could make a law against milk that goes bad in the sun.
tetrapack, 27 Feb 2020iPhone 3,3gs,4,4s,5,5s,6,6s they HAD built in battery... Oh wait.... they were NOT waterproof!... moreThey also hadn't _tried_ to waterproof the earlier iPhones. It wasn't as big of a feature back then. When they did waterproof the iphones they had to do make several design changes, such as making the home button and front screen a solid piece to eliminate a major point of intrusion where the gap between button and screen used to be.
Robert, 25 Feb 2020I want my phone to be watterproof.iPhone 3,3gs,4,4s,5,5s,6,6s they HAD built in battery... Oh wait.... they were NOT waterproof!! No? Waterproofiness has nothing NOTHING to do with removable battery...
yes previously got few removable waterproof but it will restrict smartphone design + often open back cover will cause rubber seal damage, not a smart idea

The Galaxy Note 4 5,7" I wield has more screen estate than most modern 6,3 inchers. Plus, 16:9 content will not go away soon, as most desktops, laptops and tablets use this format. And watching this on a 20:9 is a waste.

Like US is forcing others to abandon Huawei hopefully EU will force other countries to make laws and regulations favorable to customers
Nice move but why not enforce a minimum battery life (larger battery) on smartphones so that most phones won't need a battery replacement in at least 3 years.
Anonymous, 26 Feb 2020Why not BOTH removable batteries AND water resistance? https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galax... moreiPhone 4S is 9 years old. Most appliances in EU require 7 years of parts availability. That train drove away some years ago. When I was buying iPhone XR I also checked prices for its battery. Original battery plus service, 80€. 80€ on a phone that was 850€ new is insignificant expense. But hey, people want Ferrari for 400k € with maintenance for 40€...
I'm sure a lot more phone are thrown in the bin for bad batteries than for soaking in water...so If I had the option, replaceable battery please.
If we revert back to a removable batteries the phone durability will revert too from good to a very bad.
European union are a bunch of politics which cant use head when thinking.
Because if we can imagine something it doesnt mean is real to make it and let it works.
