Unfortunately, that only covers 6 months. :D Beyond that you'd have to try the two year guarantee. A bit more hassle as you'd have to build an argument, but I am pretty sure it would be possible to claim a warranty repair on an OLED with severe burn-in.
This will also cover batteries for tablets. A side-effect of this new policy will be the demise of OLED display technology. Due to its very limited life-span, OLED is already a sunset display technology on its way out. Replaceable batteries will speed up this process.
Uh-oh - Apples days are numbered.
That sucks for us in the UK then ☹️
I wish the US government shared some of the EU's values. Not all, but ones on right to repair are nice.
Its a positive move to embrace. Everything helps and puts the right awareness and mind set in place
U, 25 Feb 2020I remember the web browser problem. And the Windows Media issue too. The EU created Windows N. Great job EU.

BlackBerry doesn't really count anymore. But still we're just spineless about most industries, except for the environment, as long as the conservatives aren't in charge (they want to revoke a bill mandating environmental protection and impact studies before each project is approved, says it hurts the industry, just to illustrate my point that we really are spineless when it comes to industries and jobs. I'm not willing to launch a political debate, this is really just to illustrate our situation, but even then liberals aren't much better on that matter. There, balance is restored. No flame war please)

Yes please! also free amoled screen replacement even without warranty
yes amoleds are the best, but after 1 year heavy, or 2 year medium use, it goes pink and burnt pixels on white background.
Love EU :)
Only 2 things that get worse with time in a phone is battery and amoled screen. if lcd no problem, but lcd is way behind amoled tech
If only our gov would look out to their people
I want my phone to be watterproof.
Exactly. This is what I want. If the one feature I want to return back then it is going to be user replaceable batteries. I am still holding onto my Nokia 808 PureView because it is still functional and has a user replaceable battery and besides that, it still clicks pretty good photos that look more natural than present crop of smartphones churning out photos that look so artificial.
Anonymous, 25 Feb 2020While china and us competing on making more money, europe cares about consumer and environnement.Sad, but true.
At least EU cares about it's people.
Also, EU was the one to fine both, Apple and Google with billion fines, now they're also going after Facebook.
Personally, I like it. I think EU should keep it up.
Love the Community, 25 Feb 2020I never said that I like glass unibody. Samsung Galaxy S5 has a plastic removable back but it'... moreThe Alpha didn't have a sealed battery. It had a metal frame but with a removable plastic cover.
That's some great news!
Now we'll be able to use our phones for 5 years without paying a fortune :)
Anonymous, 25 Feb 2020While china and us competing on making more money, europe cares about consumer and environnement.how is china making money when they sell

Isn't there a certain smartphone brand that forbids replacing batteries on your own,in their devices...which you bought cheap online instead their own, helluva lot more expensive ones...they must be very angry with EU..
I would say about fkn time but they will probably have "robust conversations" with lobbyists representing manufacturers and not pass this bill. That's how pathetic the EU is...
