Two things - increasing resolution in video always increasing quality of night videos, so why you don't test 8k resolution. It could be even a lot better than this! Second thing - Note 10 and galaxy 10 is not good example of night quality - it's very big step back if you compare to older Galaxy S9+! Please compare to phones with real good night recording capabitilies, then we can really say - S20 Ultra is game changer in night videos. In this moment i see very poor note 10 and good 20 ultra.

"Now, it’s true that the S20 Ultra camera’s sensor and lens will produce a much narrower area of focus, especially close-up, but if what we’re seeing with the blurry cookie on the left is just what the Ultra’s bokeh looks like on either side of the focal plane, then yeah, that sucks."
Nick Tagataka, 05 Mar 2020I hope GSMArena will do a camera shootout between modern flagships and 1 inch compact cameras ... moreThose tests have already been done albeit not by Gsmarena.
Smartphones with computational photography are already ahead of compact point and shoot cameras. They are even matching Dslr in certain areas.
Nick Tagataka, 05 Mar 2020If my understanding is correct, software updates can only improve the post processing and not ... moreWell they have released Exynos variant in most parts of the world so SD865 optimizations don't matter.
P30 pro is limited to image processing updates from Huawei.
Samsung/Xiaomi can use gcam to solve issues that company might not solve officially.
So they extended exposure on ultra (visible as cars trail light.. ) that doesnt say anything about low light capability if you can set all camera settings in tha app via Camera API 2 which
is not always true due to android fragmentation.. so... true? its complicated... and might mean nothing... welcome to world of fast news

Dedicated cameras offer superiour hardware but the software is usually meh, so I'm curious if current computational image processing is good enough to overcome an disadvantage in sensor size.
The Last Oracle, 05 Mar 2020I am guessing Samsung (like all other users of the Tetracell/Quadbayer CFA sensor) is more ade... moreIf my understanding is correct, software updates can only improve the post processing and not the hardware optimisation. For instance, P30 Pro received a bunch of updates to tune the image quality but in the end they didn't fix some of the colour artifacts issues caused by RYYB sensor, which are no longer present on Mate 30 Pro with improved ISP. Also, the fact that Qualcomm specifically stated that they tuned the image processing pipeline of SD865 for quad CFA is starting to make me wonder if Nonacell will get a better treatment without any hardware upgrades. S20 Ultra will definitely become a better camera phone than it is right now in a next few weeks - but so will S20 (and S20+). Oh well, I guess time will tell.
Anonymous, 05 Mar 2020Because the original comment was made by a Sony fanboy who likes to put down Samsung. I think ... moreWell, generalizations of everything isn't a good idea, just because of one person. It's like saying a person from community A like to mocked one of Community B, and then community B generalized community A is a bad community, even if not all act that... Sure, fair game, if you want to see perspectives, but still, in Sociology terms, generalization could sparked more conflicts and long-term hatred, if like this is our everyday lunch. Just saying... Not a healthy state of opinion-stating...
While I will always dismiss Quad Bayer or Nona Bayer camera because of photo quality loss, their advantage can definitely be seen in low-light. That 2.4 effective micron pixel on the S20 Ultra definitely pays a dividend, and remember that 2.4 effective micron pixel is what you would normally see on a 1-inch camera.
Nice try. Still not buying.
Anonymous, 05 Mar 2020Don't worry boy, Sony's telephoto would be struggling even more bad in low light. Good job!

It's hopefully just a matter of time, before the algorithms have been tweaked sufficiently enough for the Nonacell CFA sensors to show their advantage over all other CFA patterns.

[deleted post]Your judgment is really bad. See you keep using those rubbish Samsungs.
Mi 10 Pro is not a low-cost budget device. Its performance (chipset and system) is still better than that S20. Camera and audio quality is the chart topper in DxOMark. Cameras are even probably better than the S20, then. Build quality is just as good as the S20, only behind iPhone 11 Pro.
If you are into expensive flagships, just buy an iPhone, otherwise, Samsungs are just crap and overhyped Androids costing even more than its rivals these days. Samsung also slaps advertising (Samsung Push Service and Galaxy Gift) too, which adds insult to the injury. We'll see who the heck wants to buy a S20.
.alpha, 05 Mar 2020Why compares with Note 10? Note 10 cannot even beat iPhone XS in videoYou must really be out of your normal mind to mention iPhone xs for no reason at all, even alongside with Note 10+.
They are not even in the same league with the inferior quality of Xs (106 xs vs 117 note 10+ dxo marks). Period!
With a this expensive phone anything less than absolutely perfect low light videos would be a disappointment!
mmj321, 05 Mar 2020Are you sure pixel binning is done for video too? I guess, coz otherwise, there would be huge difference in video quality of S20 vs S20 ultra in low light( 0.8 micron vs 1.8 micron).
