Hardware is not the problem in this case but the user's mastery of how to use what this phone have, and I think it's all that matters.

As of writing, it's only Sony that has developed faster AF on these type of sensors which they call 2x2 OCL (dual-pixel AF speed/accuracy but implemented for quad-Bayers) that were one of the primary feature of the IMX686. Samsung's sensor design is brute-forcing the size, pixels, and the number of pixels per color basically what the sensor already have and can be easily done. As soon as I knew that S20 Ultra has ToF sensor, I already knew that they never actually solved the AF problem with HM1.
They broke the ultra wide angle camera compare to S10 series. It is kess sharp, worst dynamic range. Less wide...
In my opinion this is the most useful one especially indoors, video indoors and traveling...
And invested so much in the least important one - the zoom

Don't buy the Ultra, it's a mess that cannot be fixed due to hardware screws ups. Wait for the Note 20 plus.
In night conditions I prefer Mate 30 Pro camera features.
The Last Oracle, 08 Mar 2020Having watched the video yet. Is this review with the latest firmware? I doubt, since there were 2 firmware updates that focused on camera improvement and the latest update was a few days ago.
Semi impressed, now want to see a review of the S20+.

Watch this small hands on type review. He will do a full review in a week or two may be.
You can trust his judgement. Watching the video you will be able to tell how good he compares the photos. Other reviewers generally suuk.

The problem with Samsung galaxy camera as always focus issue.
Didn't Samsung try the cameras before releasing this phone? How Is it possible that they didn't fix all the software issues before selling it and charging 1400$ for it?

Maybe Ssung is preparing to iron all all the issues with firmware(s). Considering how much of good smartphone photography is good computational photography algorithms, improvements should be quite noticeable. It's good, but it just needs to be great.
