Let's we wait 4 years to make it no issue. I really sure that the first underscreen fingerprint lcd will have much problem
Due to a very single fact that LCD set to maximum brightness doesnt leaves any maps and burns on your screen permanently like Amoled speciality the LCD will always prevail over amoled screen.
Dobridin, 09 Mar 2020They probably did the math but Im not sure if investing in development and implementation of s... moreUNless you set amoled to full brightness for long time.
Your display will go crisps with many brown to black maps visible in itand the text printed to your display even when yu turn every app off.
LCD will be far superior to amoled.

Anonymous, 10 Mar 2020LCD may be the reason why white balance on Xiaomi phone is so goodThere's a reason nobody else cared to look into this haha
There's a potential problem of power-draw, as the entire panel have to be powered up when unlocking, unlike the OLEDs. Also we don't know if the new workaround is as good (fast/reliable) as the UD scanners under OLED implementation. Remember, it took nearly 2 years for that tech to get anywhere near traditional capacitive ones.
I just wish Qualcomm Ultrasonic solutions would have worked as advertised. They certainly sound better on paper. But alas, its not the perfect world we live in.
Flgshp2020, 10 Mar 2020scanner at the Back is a even better placement since you can use it to click selfies or scroll... moreEach one have its preference, some prefer the back or side, other prefer the front and other the underdisplay.
I personally find the back and side one annoying as I like to unlock my phone without having to grab it so no back FPR for me and I don't like how the side one force you to be careful where you place your finger if you don't want accidental unlock, plus it can only read a small part of your fingerprint which is obviously less secure, also after owing a Nokia 6 I can now say that having it on the lower bezel is an awkward placement mostly when your phone is on a dock and you try to unlock it, so the underdisplay one is exactly what I want.
Also with a sensors like the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max not only you get the advantage of large reading area and two finger authentification that side and back scanner can't do, but you also get ultrasonic sensor which are way more secure than the optical ones.
I haven't a good experience with my OnePlus 6t underdisplay fingerprint reader, that tech wasn't quite yet mature enough and it is slow and often refuse to register my finger, the OnePlus 7 though have amazing capabilities compared.
But sadly for the diversity, side FPR is quite rare, and the one on the back tend to also become more rare...
MichaelD, 09 Mar 2020This is the most stupid innovation I ever heard because LCD panels can't turn on pixels indivi... moreAnd how dies this change anything? Now the screen have to turn on 0.5 second for the fingerprint to work, so that you can watch 8hours of youtube video? How is this changing anything? Also why do you think that their hardware division can suddenly make their software division work better? Do you even know how R&D works?
Anonymous, 09 Mar 2020Side fingerprint scnner isa better placement.scanner at the Back is a even better placement since you can use it to click selfies or scroll through gallery while your hand naturally rests on it.
Again, Chinese manufacturers pushing the envelope and being at the forefront of innovation.
TheArtist, 09 Mar 2020Good news for people like me who prefer LCD over AMOLED.Correct
This is the most stupid innovation I ever heard because LCD panels can't turn on pixels individually like AMOLED panels can so in order to unlock the phone with FP scanner under LCD display the whole LCD display have to be turned on.
Xiaomi is wasting time on stupid inovations, it would be better that they work more on MIUI since it's still far from perfect and updates are coming less and less.
