Some people are stating in these comments that they had dark mode for Play Store for months now, and that's true. I have it too, and my Moto G4 Play is in Nougat.
But the news is, now you can switch between light, dark and "defined by battery saving" o something along those lines. It was automatic before and you could not switch between dark and light.
If you have had dark mode in Google Play for months it might be because you have set the Google Search widget to dark mode. That changes some of Google apps theme to dark.
Kozo, 12 Mar 2020What about Gmail app?Well, on my OnePlus that app has a dark theme too. I don't even know if that app follows the system setting for theme, but I always had a dark theme on my phones... Never tried with a light theme.
the konigsberger, 12 Mar 2020while microsoft phone had dark mode in the settings since their inception it took google eleve... moreTrue. With all of Android's fragmentation, a simple tweak like this has been taking forever. Dark mode makes things so much easier on the eye without having to resort to the ghastly yellow-tinged reading mode. It's a shame that this app store/play store system has ensured the dominance of Android and iOS not allowing any other OS to take root. Makes me wonder if Microsoft was slapped huge fines for being anti-competitive in the 1990s, what does the competition commission have to say about the present scenario?
while microsoft phone had dark mode in the settings since their inception it took google eleven years to implement the feature and still most of their apps dont have it built in which you need android 10 to fully utilize on every google app.and still no independent dark mode feature on gmail app again!
