mathaddict, 20 Mar 2020apple's chip has always been better than qualcomm's, why would they wanna step down?? u ain't smartwhen will android soc be better than apple soc (2023)
six_tymes, 20 Mar 2020smart move, a waste of money in R&D. in the end they would not have saved much. Rely on Qu... moreDump comment. Custom chipset are made to break through from reliance on one supplier like qualcomm. Apple has best soc division in a world. Their chipset are mikes ahead of competition, and you telling them drop all this and go buy chipset from competition and waste all money for optimizong thrm to their software? Wow, very "celver" suggestion from you
Android + IOS = Ai
I love them both too.
Well i hope and think they should give it a try after corona crisis.
Well knowing that CPU and SoC are way more than just a calculation unit, but they actually have to integrate lots of standards without trying to force their own proprietary into the mix (and I don't know how Xiaomi behave for such things), but more importantly it is also lots and lots of security and optimisations that have to work with ALL phones, I am actually happy this happen.
Not that I am a Qualcomm fan or that I like one having dominance, but I'd largely prefer another chip maker independent from his own brand to make chips, and that for many logic reasons we might all agree on.
What I like about Qualcomm though, is both their 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic underdisplay fingerprint scanner, who spec wise (though there isn't any real world experience from multiples users in many conditions yet) it is the incontestable king of fingerprint scanner by a huge margin, but they also partnered with Trinimax, and Infineon to make quite incredible 3D facial recognition code, chip integration and signal processor treatments, and hardware.
And I would really like that either more phone integrate those solution OR that companies do an equivalent as 2D facial recognition and optical fingerprint scanner are seriously unsecured and almost an outdated tech now.
Compagnies making their own coprocessor and other dedicated chips can be great, but their own SoC I don't believe that it can lead to anything except negative things for users, like Samsung and their stupid Exynos thingy they force into EU...
AnonD-754814, 20 Mar 2020Another typical Huawei fan with no knowledge.Sorry to disappoint you, I'm both an iOS and Android user. Nice attempt trying to judge a person's cellphone brand through a comment. By your analogy and comments over the website, you must be some kind of hotshot that shills over Galaxy devices eh?
Talk about knowledge, go do your an in depth research on Xiaomi's full ecosystem before talking about knowledge, muppet.
Anonymous, 20 Mar 2020We need only Apple's A processors and Snapdragon. Kirin Exynos MediaTek all are gimmicks.Apple : a company with overpriced devices...
Qualcomm : a company condamned many Time for anti-competitive behavior and abuse of dominance!
You must be a winner!
A, 20 Mar 2020apple a13 is made by tsmc Made as in designed is by Apple, with customized variations of ARM designs. 'Made' as in fabbed by TMSC. The difference between architecting and engineering vs. building construction.

mathaddict, 20 Mar 2020apple's chip has always been better than qualcomm's, why would they wanna step down?? u ain't smartWhat good is that chip when it's bottlenecked by poor co-hardware and iOS itself?

I don't blame them. Chip development is expensive - especially if aiming to stand out against the competition.
six_tymes, 20 Mar 2020smart move, a waste of money in R&D. in the end they would not have saved much. Rely on Qu... moreApple is designing the core on their own. Xiaomi was trying to do it like QUALCOMM.
Custom CPU design is on another level. It's out of Xiaomi's league.
Even QUALCOMM doesn't do it since 2016.
AnonD-908380, 20 Mar 2020They should also abandon their crap UI.Yeah stock android would be better.
While it stifles innovation, its probably a right move given how Xiaomi's revenue isn't largely based on smartphones. The profit generated from their IoT devices and home appliances far exceeds that.
Look at how Samsung threw tons of $$ into the RND for their customed Exynos Mongoose SoCs and decades later they ditched it and is returning to ARM designs.
I can only pin on Huawei's Hisilicon Kirin and Mediatek's Dimensity to give Qualcomm a run for their money.
mathaddict, 20 Mar 2020apple's chip has always been better than qualcomm's, why would they wanna step down?? u ain't smartDude stop the non sense Qualcomm was largely ahead early on Vs apple
After apple part ways with imagination they started to make strides
AnonD-908380, 20 Mar 2020They should also abandon their crap UI.And their Android One lineup has been nerfed twice by every iteration. Don't know if their successor will continue this method or not... If does, don't expect them to abandoned MIUI altogether any time soon....
