I would like to hear actual model numbers as opposed to "UI suckes and not reliable". I own a ROKR E2 and I personally do not have any issue with it at all. The first RIZR/KRZR firmware was buggy but after an update was released it runs pretty solid. Not every phone will be a perfect phone.
Anyone owned a Nokia 6280? Nokia's solution was to push out a 6288 which was not a fix for anyone who bought a 6280 and got sim card errors, poor battery life, and poor signal. Sure the V3 had shortcomings with the keys leaving impressions on the screen, ribbon breaking, and mainboard failures, but it was a revolutionary phone that came out near 4 years ago. Motorola just needs to offer more phones, better features and get rid of the crazy names. They already have a good market of low-priced, stylish phones with decent features.
people talk about marketing, worlds first, and blah blah blah.
to keep it straight forward, motorola isnt pay full attention to their mobile phone sector.
i know they all other stuff apart from mobile phone BUT that is no excuse because the mobile phone enterprise is a VERY competitive market.
The RAzR series which is a highlight of the company, YES it was very good at the time but they cant just rely on it for years. I remember for years that motorola handset range a looks the same and they came out with more and more Razr inspired designs that were getting more boring...
And besides when it comes to their mobile phones, they arent reli the best when it comes to technology.
Look at LG they started slowly and literally almost unknown, they they brought out chocolate, made a big hit...making their brand more familiar. YES there were problems with the handset but they learned from it. Now they got the Viewty.. Looks good ... technology is good
The point is ! ! Motorola didnt do what the customers wanted....
yes people love razr but after some time people wanted more technology and motorola didnt cater for that
also its too late for them to change their UI and OS coz by that time its reputation has already been damaged...
even sales people probabaly have avoided selling it. or they might be finding it difficult to sell because there isnt much technology...
just look at their range of handsets at the moment and then compare it to o ther brands.... its just not enough range of hansets as well..
Motorola should merge with small mobile phone company like Sagem but keep the name motorola.
They also should quit this RAZR phobia for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is getting annoying to see every new phone from motorola has RAZR-ish design.
one tip to motorola: Release high end phones with fresh design ( NOT RAZR, RIZR, KRZR ROKR!!!! ) and release it before summer.
How does SAGEMOTO sound ppl any thoughts? With Motorolas designs(RAZN) & with SAGEMs class leading reliability.
Well i think motorola is just doing his to boost their sales.
motorola isnot only dealing in Mobile fones. its has a lot of other wireless technologies.
when u com to bluetooth head sets, nokia, SE sAmsung are far behind than motoorla.
When u come to wimax there motorola
when u com 2 barcoders motorola.
in shortrange fones motorola.
...... if motorola is sold .... it will never be like phillips or siemens as motorola has some superior music 3g solutions.
God bless you Motorola team or the effort !!!
Yeah..you are right on those points partially...
you also have to think and even acknowledge why people have such fierce negative comments for Moto...not because they have pretty bad experiences with Motorola.
And as a customer please explain why we should even care that Moto is the originator of mobile phone and several first novel features you mentioned?
I have to say that other companies also have several first technologies in their phones.
For example, Nokia, they brought out world's first digital phone (GSM compatible) in 1993; co-invented dominant GSM mobile system and AAC audio files; is the first to make phone with changeable cover, in-built game, fully rugged shell, in-built flashlight, stand-by time of a whole week, WAP, GPRS, full metal casing, MMS, true 24-bit display for both high-end and mass market, fully usable GPS navigation system, fully integrated features (not just first with seperate features), capability of shooting VGA 30fps vdo, etc... the company also brought the first mass market smartphone with VGA camera (7650) and 5 MP cam (N95)...; and was the first to sell 1 and 2 billionth phone, to have 20, 30, and 40 percent of global handset share, to sell over 100 million phones in a quarter. most importantly the company still retains its leadership position for a full decade (since 1998, Nokia beated Motorola because the latter underestimate the global success of GSM)
As a user, one wants easy-to-use UI that would not lead to any negative experience and comment later on.
Why do you think Nokia controls over 40% of the market share in mobile phone industry? Is it because of the design, or the features?
You see, in this world we live in now, design cannot keep up with technology. Yes the V3 had a slim design, but soon it got outdated. Now people are looking for phones with more features. Why do you think Nokia even bothered creating the N-series. There was a purpose; they were able to forecast a insurgence of technology from the multitudes of people. Sometimes you have to rely on marketing strategy rather than focus on design.
So go on with your endless praise about the V3 or Motorola being 'innovator' of mobile phones. Like it will make a difference whatsoever in the way people think.
I think CECT China is best potential buyer
Even IBM sells their pc div to Lenovo
China should be the highest bidder if Motorola really looking best buyer in terms of value
Nah, a few years ago everyone was talking exactly the same thing about Ericsson, before they merged with Sony - and look at them now. Motorola has their faithful buyers. They should just merge their cell phone branch with someone. Hopefully not with Apple.
I am not suprise, but I am saddened. Every mobile I have ever owned (apart from a Samsun A900) is a Motorola but even I, a dedicated follower, think they have lost their way. At the moment I await the release of the HTC Touch Cruise to replace my ageing Motorola A1000. If Moto does go, I will miss them - they started the whole thing so I do hope they reconsider, pull their finger out and get back in the number one spot.
motorola is really complicated, it seemed like targeting consumers only from the American territory. i do hope motorola considers upgrading their mobile phones to a full competitive level targeting the interests of the asian and middle eastern markets as well.
lets face it motorola havn't made a decent handset for well years....this is no big loss as they are not putting the resurch or money into there handsets
This news is actually part false. Motorola ain't still giving up on its mobile phone segment. It only needs some time to sit quiet in the mobile phone world and return with bold new strategies, more modern handsets and more revolutionary designs than what you expect. Motorola will just RESTRUCTURE its phone segment, not SELL it. It might be down in the mobile war, but it still isn't out yet.
Don't EVER ruin the name of Motorola by throwing negative comments and destructive criticism at them. It may have the worst UI, most stagnant phone series (RAZR) and the lamest marketing strategy as of now, but please pay repect to the ORIGINATOR of mobile phones. If Moto hadn't started its mobile phone business then there would be no Nokia, no Sony Ericsson, no LG, no Samsung, etc. and most especially, NO PHONE. Ever. It may have its downs, but no phone comapny is perfect. It also pioneered many of the phone features you see in your phones today: flat keypad, 3.5 mm jack, 3d speakers, WiFi (you heard it! MPX series had the first WiFi), thin flip design (which was copied relentlessly), a2dp Bluetooth, etc...and that's only just the tip of the iceberg.
So, I hope that Motorola will step into the shadows just now and return with a vigorous revenge.
this is not good @ any cost of LOSSES company face this is only matter that the Motorola is not very much user friendly to ASIA markets and the people saying about the after services the best services after sale is presented by MOTOROLA all over the world in the most good ways to help the customers.
Company is facing lose so what there is way to produce the most LOW range feature only for ASIA region and make some models that is PREMIUM to the MOTO CLASS like V8/9 GOLD for the customers with 5 year warranty only at MOTO center.
Most of the low range model will be deleted from market very early before the demand lost in market coz people asking about them all the time still i can say people wanting the V3 and F3 and its not available in ASIAN market.
thinking of the model deletion in depending to wards to people chose not by the company when the warranty is gone there is no harm to company and also make thing possible to make the service centers are accepting the old model to be repaired by MOTO only
Make these little changes toward ASIA region coz this is most demanding toward the grow of profit from little earning people.
The problem with Motorala is that they failed to move on from the mega success of the V3. Oh yes, the V3 was a marvelous phone for its time (I got it twice: the V3 and the V3i). Almost ALL my friends got the phone, but Motorola just couldn't do better than than the V3. They need to reorganise or replace their design team. Maybe the freshness will bring new inspiration...
Terrible to see Moto going down.I was intending to upgrade my Moto C261 to a Moto V8 but with the sad news of Moto I am going to sale my C261 and jump to Sony Ericsson before its too late.
I was and I am still a fan of Moto but with uncertainty hanging over their shoulders I cant afford to buy a phone from which I will struggle to buy accessories once the company shuts down.Too bad for my once favourite brand.Hope they shall find a way out-long life Moto.
Hey, you from Germany, Bochum! Nokia do what they consider better. Romania, Cluj is a better option and with this hard times mobile market is very important to lower the costs, thats why Nokia make this move. You germans look like a beggar with this attitude.
Now, about Moto. It's a shame if Moto go down. Motorola is a legend, but when this type of news ar comming is a bad thing. I was a big Siemens fan, but they go down because their own fault... bad management. Moto is in the same situation, a very bad management. Razr concept is outdated, their UI is bad, Linux platform is not very good implemented, they have a lot of problems. If this problems will not be solve, Motorola will be out from mobile market, or like Philps they will go in the hands of a chinese company to make crapy phones.
Go go Moto and give us a "Hello" again.
Pls dont pull the plug on the Gr8 American Legend!! I believe MOTO still has huge potential and I m a huge fan of tht!!! fine tuning the strategy and the product wld b enouf to beat all other phs in the market and i believe thts wat the new CEO is der for!!
Motorola just needs a better CEO that knows how to complete with other manufacturers.
Every manufacturers have at least 3MP camera phones if not 5MP.
Look at what Motorola has. Nothing but 2MP camera phones all these few years. Motorola is now consider low end phones because Motorola cannot keep up.
