Or maybe th... moreMy thoughts:
- 16:9 sensor: since video is 16:9, you do not need to have more than 32MP sensor, which would be the case of 4:3. Also you can apply more crop to improve EIS.
- ISO 1.000.000 just to brag about, even FF will struggle at high values.
- The 16-1 mode must be just for 1080p videos, none is going to take a 3,25MP photo.
The P40 Pro looks like a beast. I prefer the size of the P40 though. The good thing here is that the Kirin 990 doesn't require oversized batteries and cooling system like the 865. Huawei flagships have always had outstanding battery life.

If this is it, you're better off getting the Mate 30 series. Goodness, the phones this year are really not cutting it...
Future Leader, 24 Mar 2020So the 5 camera and two zoom lens were gimmick? That's the Pro Premium. Think of that like a competitor to S20 Ultra. The P40 Pro which is mentioned here is a competitor to S20+ with it's quad-camera setup.
Anonymous, 24 Mar 2020Well Huawei is dead in the water with such small batteries, also it will cost more than S20 mo... moreI’m no Huawei fan, but they are good at getting decent performance out of their batteries. Certainly a 4200mAh / Kirin combo will outlast a similar sized cell when paired with the efficiency impaired Exynos Soc.
I do agree though, no Google services will be a considerable shower stopper outside of China. One which no amount of crazy, over the top and likely unnecessary camera tech will over come.....especially at that price.
At this point they should just go back to top bezels because this stupid cutout trend is getting ridiculous.
Whackcar, 24 Mar 2020The differences have only gotten smaller over the years. They used to use LCD panels & dow... moreThey downgrade the exact features that the customer needs the most i.e battery, waterproofing, cameras. Otherwise same storage, RAM, CPU / GPU, dimensions, screen size, overall design, colours etc. Those really don't matter much. With a little difference in price. Ofcourse the customer would want to compare as they do. Companies know their buying behaviour and acts accordingly. These are just tricks my guys, don't fall for them. Save money and get a mid range phone, it's not a lot of difference and worth spending all that extra cash for some gimmick features. I have a 200 $ Nokia and it's as durable and well made as any flagship, with as good fit and finish levels. It's even water resistant to some extent, runs latest Android version, battery lasts day easy, isn't too slow, does most things well. Also it's not so costly to repair anything in it, in case it breaks. The camera isn't so good but most people don't need top quality phone camera anyway. For daily tasks, it barely even makes a difference whether you use a 300$ or a souped up 1500$ flagship. Sure it looks pretty but it's not that worth really in 2020. Even starter phones have decent specs these days. Whatever you buy, it's gonna last you a couple of years. So why spend all that extra cash, phones get old so soon with constant advances in their tech. But it's your cash so do whatever with it lol, I'm just saying
Well Huawei is dead in the water with such small batteries, also it will cost more than S20 models in Europe, when it gets here. No Google to top it off.
travstr, 24 Mar 2020huawei always makes the difference between their pro and non-pro variants too large, it doesn'... moreTrue. It's like, only the pro makes sense to buy. They push the customers to buy it. The regular looks like a bad deal. I wonder if the regular is specifically made for that purpose
Another stupid overpriced phone with curved edges. What's the whole deal with all these gimmick features I fail to understand
Why separate stills/video, if its for 8K on ordinary bayer I could understand...
Or maybe there is some tech as leaked 16bayer(or quad quad bayer) for 3mp in extreme low light, which wouldn't work well for video. Btw I wonder what iso it uses for stills then 1.000.000?

but with that being said I agree with you, it was way worse a few years ago. at least they use the same main cam now.

I agree with you to an extent. I miss the days when there was one flagship smartphone. There was nothing to choose from, if you wanted the absolute best you just go for that smartphone.
travstr, 24 Mar 2020huawei always makes the difference between their pro and non-pro variants too large, it doesn'... moreThe differences have only gotten smaller over the years. They used to use LCD panels & downgraded primary camera sensors on the Non-Pro. Things are certainly much better now.
They should start offering IP68 certification on the Non-Pro model though, as it's fully expected from any flagship these days.
