Never settle? Lol, Broken display, don't even bother to look at specs. Sony so far is awesome with absolutely perfect display no nonsense like punch hole etc with it's Xperia series. Better bezel than broken display.
Mister , 27 Mar 2020Have you heard how many bacterias your phone attract during a day? I don't think they will fly... moreAnd your PC keyboard is dirtier than your toilet seat bacteria wise, but you probably don't feel the need to want it to be IP68 to wash it under water.
Your mouth is one of the dirtiest place of your body, you probably don't feel the need to poor bleach into it.
Your shoes are really dirty but Oriental peoples don't have the tradition of removing them at the entrance.
US style bathroom with toilet on the same place you brush your teeth is dirty as not only the smell of something is literally micro particles of said things flying in the air, and flushing create tons of those, but it doesn't bother peoples much.
There is a difference between basic hygiene like washing your hand after you get from outside, taking regular shower, ideally every two days and wash off the rest of the time, etc.
And trying to avoid every single bacteria, which have a negative effect, the same as taking too much antibiotic, one reduce your immune system, the other reinforce bacteria.
Also, if you have bacteria on your phone, it mean you have them on your finger (which is the first place they came from), and you still touch many things with your dirty hand that you won't feel the need to wash under water, like your keys, your door knob, your belt, your car's wheel and many other things.
Also, IP rating IS NOT required in order to be water resistant anyway, the OnePlus models are known to have really good water resistance, even against immersion and water jet, even the OnePlus 7(t) Pro with his pop up.
It would be like asking for shampoo bottles to be IP68 certified so you are sure shower's water don't get in, or water bottles to be IP68 certified to be sure they don't leak...
IP rating isn't required, and also it DOESN'T guarantee your particular phone won't have a defect who make it able to get water in, and since water damage isn't covered by warranty even with IP Rating, is it really necessary all that drama around IP rating which :
_Increase the price as getting your model IP rated is expensive and they won't just give up that amount.
_Doesn't guarantee anything as it isn't waterproof but only water resistant meaning it only prevent under LIMITED conditions water leaking in.
_Won't add much more, as OnePlus phones are already water resistant.
_Cause useful and desired feature like pop up and Jack port to be removed.
_All that for something you shouldn't put underwater anyway as :
1) Putting non waterproof electronic device under water unnecessarily is stupid.
2) It is useless, the idea is to remove finger grease is the goal, not trying to fight bacteria.
3) There are better and more effective ways than water to clean your phone off of bacteria in the first place :

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/sanitize-your-mobile-phone-with-these-helpful-tips/
All those websites (and probably every other you will find) clearly say that even IP rated phone while they could be washed with water, it is still a bad idea, and it isn't the most effective way.
C'mon dude, even myself who is almost OCD level of clean when it come to washing things, who already had alcohol gel in his pocket before the Covid-19, I don't feel the need to wash my phone, it is bacteria dirty, not gross dirty, that's totally different.
Otherwise you can still buy and wear this everytime you go out :

Logan, 27 Mar 2020Why No Pop Up ? Do they reserve it for the 8T Pro ??? Punchholes are so stupid. The majority of us don't want moving parts. Puncholes are much better. Im not talking about the look, i talk about practicality. Thank you OnePlus
To the people getting butthurt over the removal of pop-up camera. I too don't like flaws in the display (whether it be notch or punch-hole), but yet i don't like flaws in the construction & durability either (which all pop-up mechanisms will be susceptible to).
Pop-Up cameras can't be fully sealed, and hence will not provide as strong water-resistance as a typical phone (regardless of what tests you've seen online)
Pop-Up cameras can fail over time. (any motor-based solution can fail)
Pop-Up cameras are susceptible to damage upon impact (the drop-safety trigger isn't quick enough to protect from all kind of drops).
The point being, that Pop-Up cameras aren't a perfect solution. So for the time being, let's settle with mini notches & punch-holes, until we get to under-display cameras (should be ready within 1-2 years at most based on the prototypes from Xiaomi & Oppo).
Personally, i think mini-bezels is the perfect solution (akin to Meizu phones), but i don't see other brands picking up on that trend, so I'll settle with what we've got.
Anonymous, 27 Mar 2020Lol so we can't criticize a phone nowadays and can only talk about phone that we want to own? ... moreMicrofiber cloth with some alcohol will do the thing.
AnonD-909757, 27 Mar 2020Sorry but there are some well known person who are honest and who simply take said phone and p... moreHave you heard how many bacterias your phone attract during a day? I don't think they will fly away cause they see a microfiber cloth
HYPR, 27 Mar 2020Good. Don't buy it then. We don't care. How about comment on a phone you'd love to own. This p... moreLol so we can't criticize a phone nowadays and can only talk about phone that we want to own? What a load of bs
[deleted post]Of course I've tried then dude. You don't know me.
As a metalhead that likes the occasional jazz and watching videos and movies with zero latency on flights, that DAC makes a difference.
Ewwww that hole punch on the screen. Fugly
J. , 27 Mar 2020Buy an adaptor, cost less than 10 dollares. Stop crying. Adaptors can only be summarize in two words: Utter CRAP! I never find and use any single 3.5mm audio jack adapter that can last in long term use. Within a year or probably a year and a half, I have to get a new adaptor... which I find it very annoying. I rather get myself a Type-C earphone or headphone instead of going wireless or using adaptor. Thankfully OnePlus did made a competent Type-C earphone.
Ah the dreaded punch hole. Guess the 7 pro will be the only oneplus I ever own.
As enticing as the color and wireless charging features sound, the punch-hole display is a deal breaker. A permanent hole in your display blocking visibility of content is a defect, not a feature.
Oh my god...
I also want a pop-up version and please, just give it a 65W charging and it's 100% banger.
Cmon guys from OnePlus, you can do that...
HYPR, 27 Mar 2020Good. Don't buy it then. We don't care. How about comment on a phone you'd love to own. This p... moreIt's not the physical appearance. You can't reach the best results if your sensors are generic models from Sony or Samsung. They themselves and Huawei use custom ones with bigger sizes. Also at the flagship prices that now they ask, they should offer a good telephoto too. And leaks talk about a generic 3x zoom when even a P40 comes with 5x. Something that now even mid rangers have, even two of them plus a proper setup of cameras.
The setup of this cameras is the most common you can find. The punch hole will also be a thing of the past sooner than later when the thin bezels make its return, like the Meizu ones or the upcoming iPhone 12. As I said, both Vivo and Oppo are now well above OnePlus. With much more appetizing models. And, of course a lot of competitors. If you "Never Settle", then you must take the lead and innovate with new designs, hardware , etc. But inside BBK they seems to be the most conservative ones with nothing interesting to offer. Their beginning was be flagship killers with an attractive price, now they're bland and vulgar expensive phones.
[deleted post]I already explained how magnetic linear actuators could make the pop up cheaper, faster, more reliable and taking less space.
I already explained many time that pop up is one of the only (and the most popular of those) solution for privacy which is THE most important and valuable thing an individual have on internet in our modern society and how dramatically bad things can get (and have been) when this is taken away.
I already explained how space wise it would be smarter to use more sensors on the pop up, including 3D facial recognition sensors.
I already explained how the system could be made without physically housing camera inside the pop up module.
But I feel like I will waste my time trying to explain something like that to an individual like you anyway.
But if you prefer a bunch of dead pixels over a neat, practical, reliable, efficient, cheap and privacy respecting solution that give you real fullscreen, that's your choice.
The day a major privacy breach will expose your face to self propagating security leak like WannyCry and as a result, your face + many other informations will be for sale on the deep web, causing you to be victime of a life devastating identity thief, we will see who will be the one laughing.
