What irks me, is that it stops Google services in Europe. I'm amazed that Google don't just add their services via Europe.

No other country got such problems, now they want to dictate politics in other countries. Funny.

Unfortunately, spying by the Chinese government has always been an ongoing problem for America. America has to do what it has to do to protect itself and its allies, so I don't blame America. It would be nice if Huawei could distance themselves from the Chinese government.

Fortunately, in the context of smartphones(I know the issue is bigger than smartphones, rather telecom infrastructure), there are plenty other good brands of smartphones to choose from for the West e.g. Xiaomi, Oneplus, Samsung, LG, Sony & Apple.

If you are an American, why does it matter, especially when NONE of Huawei products, jobs, etc, fuel the country's growth in anyway whatsoever?

Yeah, sure, great idea US, the only thing that will come out of that is that Huawei will simply start making their own SoC and their own OS bringing not just another brand who the US can get revenues from through Android, but a true alternative which they won't get a penny from.
The Chinese might start to love those Huawei so much, the revenues will allow them to start applying lithography on other kind of chips, other Chineses brands might start buying them as they are a cheaper alternative over Qualcomm and they are local and Huawei might be smart and attract them with interesting commercial offers, then, since most Chinese phones will get their own OS and SoC, the US and EU market will be flooded by those and US and US allied brands will loose territory there.
Russia, India and Middle East country will love those.

While the Android Market will be in majority dominated by brands like Samsung or maybe Sony, LG etc, which will rise because of Chinese phone with Huawei hardware and OS limited, the Android Market will still count many brand from China, and the whole Smartphone market will start to diverge with Apple from one side, Android on the other, and the Chinese OS as a new one which will seriously hit the Smartphone market without any revenues for the US.
THEN China might start making their own CPU and other components...

Whatever this or anything else happen, I am sure the US is to regret their action against Huawei, China isn't a country you can just shit on and hope nothing happen...
MAINLY now that they are the first country to recover from the COVID-19 and other country such as the US haven't reached the peak yet...

Part of the cost of their phones are due to the expensive licenses for USA related technology and patents. Once those ties are removed they'll phones will become more cheaper, independent and more competitive against the overpriced phones from Samsung, Sony, LG, etc. Their move must be in that direction. Erase any technology related to USA. Use own and local ones. Invest in RISC-V SoCs. Finish their HarmonyOS for phones and move on.

It's time to make a big move and change looking into the future.

Well the US will only hurt their own economy and right now I don't think that's a smart move.

China will not really be affected by this but the US will.

Huawei are already becoming independent of Google and in 1-2 years they will not be needing Google anymore and the consumers will have all the apps they used to have:)

The only failure here will be US and their own Google Company will loose so much money.

I'll bring the popcorn and see how all this unravels - gonna be super duper exciting wohoo:)

Saying this as an American, the US is dumb. How can a company be banned for alleged spying and for consumer/commercial tech privacy issues but still be considered for "readiness to re-negotiate terms and restore business relations"? If the company is not to be trusted, ban them outright. If you just want a better business/trade deal, than work it out. If there were actually privacy concerns, you wouldn't even consider doing business with them in the first place. It's an obvious cash/economic grab and should be considered economic and political fraud/price fixing and needs to be upheld in the court of law.

The US is shooting itself in the foot and Huawei right now is one of the true innovators of tech and bringing out new technology. Yet they want to ban a company they have yet to even produce evidence against. Huawei keeps pushing the envelope ahead of everyone and banning them will kill innovation and trade
