Noisey_Boy, 29 Mar 2020Yes it does, I have a non GMS Huawei device and Netflix works fine. I have the Mate 30 Pro and Netflix s*cks because you can't even play in HD.
Youtube apk doesn't work. i don't care about other Google apps but a phone that cannot install Youtube is totally unacceptable.

The FACT that a sideloaded Youtube apk does NOT work is already hillarious.
Not worth every penny.

Great phone but it's coming out on a very bad time. The whole world is going into recession. Probably very few are going to buy this. But I think same thing goes for every other manufacturer.

Shui8, 29 Mar 2020Do you realize in good light there, P40 gave natural details on that sample? Both 12mp & 5... moreoversharpening? You can clearly see that k20 has more details and better texture look at the photos again. Some words can't be read in p40 but you can read them with k20

- no HD for netflix
- ddr4x only
- useless quad curved screen design just to say it has more % compared to flat screen
Most weird about this phone. The 4k60 has half bitrate compared to 4K30.
I have never seen such thing before.

Since this article never explains what GMS means, please let me:
"The term GMS stands for Google Mobile Services, which refers to a selected array of Google proprietary applications and the services which pack the very essence of Google. The apps such as Chrome, Gmail, Youtube, Maps, PlayStore and many more are a part of GMS applications"
Not having Google Mobile Services on your phone for anyone outside of China is a huge disadvantage. It makes this otherwise well designed phone unusable for most or many. Side loading apps as .APK files may provide some google apps but doesn't fix this problem. Many Google apps won't work or won't work correctly. Huawei P40 is great for China but a fail for anyone else.
I believe this problem of the Huawei ban could be solved by a good faith negotiation with the USA. First, Huawei must fully separate itself from the Chinese government. It must make itself truly independent. That would be a major and important first step in regaining the trust of the USA federal government.

I bought Honor 9X with no GMS onboard, Guess what? Upon phone setup, it asked me do I want to restore backedup apps from google account. and it restored all my google apps including Playstore, gmail, youtube. I didn't do a thing to get all my google apps back. god stores works like charm as well. just sharing my experience. Go for P40 Pro. its such as great phone, only if I have money for it.
