Even with gms onboard its doa. The Kirin 990 is just too far behind the competition (Exynos excluded - which nobody wants to compare amy flagship to anyways).
Even last year Kirin 990 struggled to keep up with Sd 855 plus, even when Huawei openly stated, that they didnt include the latest cores, because Kirin 990 already was fast enough to compete with sd 865 !

For me, GMS is second part of the system. Emui 10.1 in Huawei P40 offer more features for better user daily driver for me.. apps can be download from other third party store. Now Huawei Apps Gallery will increase more apps in that store. One day, Apps Gallery can bit Play Store more apps.

The Apple/Google duopoly deserves to get broken into pieces. Soon we will have an alternative.

Dead on arrival without Google play services, unfortunately. Not Huawei's fault, I blame that on the douche bag President and his phony trade war!
Would have been a must with Google Services on board, don't care much for sideloads.

You can cry as much as you want - the P40 series are complete garbage. They are the worst phones you can buy. Actually they are not even flagships - they are midrangers and the sh*tty kirin 990 chip is a midrange too. Even SD55 is much more powerful than that garbage chip.

With the Amazon app store, it's got good maps (eg Osmand+), and good enough alternatives for everything else i need. I have had Amazon Fire tablets since the first Kindle Fire came out; I got a Fire Phone to play with when the were going for "fire sale" prices; to me, this is an Amazon phone done right, without problematic aspects of Amazon involvement. But ultimately, it is the camera features and that make this a first-choice, not just an appealing contender (from among phones with dual frequency, L1 + L5 etc dual/triple band, GNSS -- an absolute must-have).

1) iPhone 11 Pro Max can (roughly) resolve the circles at 12MP
2) Redmi K30 shows you what true resolution can do (and what it's supposed to look like)
3) Samsung S20 Ultra 5G is just full of crap too.
4) Oppo Find X2 Pro gives pretty good images
5) the Huawei P40 Pro 50 MP image can't even match a 48MP image from the Redmi K20 and 19MP image from a Sony Xperia XZs
Let's face it. It's a shitty camera.
