wasox, 28 Mar 2020Well, when this feature was new, many ranted about being a batt hog, a display burner, and... moreI always liked it, and I almost instantly thought about few logic optimisations like really low refresh rate at which ambiant light sensor are checked to make sure the phone don't need to bright up its display because of high ambiant light reducing readability (and when it is at high luminosity, check more often to quickly reduce unnecessary brightness) + moving around what is displayed.
And since it can (should always) be enable/disable in settings, there is literally no reasons for not putting it on a phone !
I am sure some might praise OnePlus for that extremely late implementation, but I explained in my comment why this haven't been done for the sake of the customers anyway...
We live in a sad world where company do really shitty things to customers and those customers don't even realize that but still complain about the problem, they can't realize it is voluntarily done.
wasox, 28 Mar 2020Well, when this feature was new, many ranted about being a batt hog, a display burner, and... moreIt become very trendy nowadays. Almost all Android OEM has one. There is a rumor Apple will bake this feature in ios13 based on the rendering and it will be standard.
Yes, it uses 1% per hour, but there is NO REASON not to give users the option of turning it on. Oneplus is supposed to be about customization.
wasox, 28 Mar 2020Well, when this feature was new, many ranted about being a batt hog, a display burner, and... moreI hope their always-on display will move the clock and other informations around to avoid burn-ins, and also hope they keep the ambient display as well, AOD is distracting because it's always on and definitely use more battery than ambient display.
Well, when this feature was new, many ranted about being a batt hog, a display burner, and so, NOW everybody wants it, funny how fanboys just blah blah when their preferred brand implements something, very short memory
YES ! FINALLY !
It is stupid, almost criminal to make a phone with Oled and not lets the used have the ability to enable Always On Display, its like Hybrid car without a plug, there is NO reasons to NOT include it !
That's because of things like that that we can see how brands don't really care about the users, they preferred taking away the features in fear that for those enabling it, it would make the battery last few less minutes, which they consider is a too big loss for them than letting users having a desired feature !
They also probably only decided to add it back because it was so requested that it would give them a bad image to not listen to such a heavily requested (and really simple to do for them) feature.
I am sure if it wasn't for their image, they wouldn't have bother to do this, also this is a good way to not only appear like a brand who listen to its customers (while it is only pure commercial decision) AND make medias talk about them (as it is the case here) from a single tweet, having free ad from those tech news media, mainly now that the OnePlus 8 family is approaching.
Disclaimer here :
I am NOT bashing OnePlus in particular here, they ALL do that, and not just on Smartphones, I just want to point out that this isn't an act of kindness and here it is easy to actually explain those almost anti customers behaviors where money is so important that even something requiring close to no efforts have no value compared to even a little chance to appear on media and other small commercial strategies, otherwise it would have happened a while ago.
Which is why almost all Smartphone basically sucks and have so many idiotic design and feature choice, because the customer is less than unimportant for those brands.
Funny thing is, if one day a brand emerge and ALWAYS take customers in priority over shady commercial strategy, it will become fairly quickly a dominant brand as peoples will quickly realize how much better than other brands it is, because ALL brand have lots of justified complains about their how they act.
