I sure hope the S9 and Note 9 get v. 2.1, because ever since the update to Android 10 and One UI v.2, Android Auto hasn't worked properly on Samsung phones. There are over 900 posts to that effect, starting in January in this Android Auto thread: https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/26362828# No fix has been made in over two months! Posts near the end of the thread indicate that One UI 2.1 might fix the problem. If the S9 and Note 9 phones don't get 2.1, we may be screwed!

Actually, it IS a big deal if you have Android Auto. One UI 2.0 broke the texting capability of Android Auto and apparently the fix is One UI 2.1 (Unless you want to downgrade back to Android 1.0) https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/26362828?hl=en Only those phones that have One UI 2.1 are working.

All the people complaining about a particular Android manufacturer's update policy. Please! In all fairness, this is the average policy in the Android world, no less!

No manufacturer develops Android version updates for ANY phone after 2 years except for Google and OnePlus (cheers to that, OnePlus). (Who buys Pixels anyway?)

One person even compares Samsung to Essential - ridiculous. Essential has one single phone in its entire life, while in his given timeframe i.e. 2 years, Samsung released 10 dozens of phone models and he expects it to deliver 3+ Android updates to each of them! Even Google and OnePlus have far lesser number of devices.

As for the rest - same story everywhere. 2 major Android updates with 3 years of security updates, at best, including Samsung (as is the topic here).

That said, I would wish for better update policies for every manufacturer, including Samsung, to give at minimum 3 major Android version update and 4 years of regular security update. Especially given the asking price of phones. Otherwise, 1000 USD worth of electronic devices have, and should, never ever meant disposable items.

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2020Why? Did you buy Samsung’s cheapest phone expecting it to get 5 years update?I bought the Galaxy S7 & Galaxy Tab S on release date - Big mistake on my part.
Software updates were sloooow ... and limited in quantity.

Never Again will I buy a Samsung phone or tablet.

This stupid way of updates what all manufacturers doing today push users only to another maker SAMSUNG to Xiaomi, Xiaomi to Huawei, Huawei to OPPO and so on. Just think about it.

Its becoming harder to defend samsung on this.. their phones are great however at the price and status of a flagship, righting it off after 2 years is a downer... OnePlus isnt a better phone, however given the support they give, I am convinced to give it a shot after Note 9.. and if no love for android is there then atleast iphone keeps on giving support for 5 years which is a plus... Why cant samsung keep its dedicated base to flagships entertained instead of pissing them off..

It's equally important that they make their phones more repairable. Tired of scraping underneath a battery, tired of planned obsolescence after two years and tired of excessive glue at the back!

But they make only few flagships per year as well.for the price they are charging for a phone like s9 at leat they should provide updates up to 4 years in my opinion.

Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 are very capable chip sets even to run Android R in my opinion. I have no faith in galaxy s20 plus will get 3 major updates which i paid 1350USDs for (Sri lankan concerted price)

[deleted post]Right now it won't, but if they continue this trend in the future, then surely it will be a doomsday for Sammy.
Heck even today, they're already feeling the fierce competition from Chinese brands that are offering better value for money devices. So much so that it forced Samsung to release better quality entry level and mid range devices.

I mean, I would definitely buy an iPhone 7 now in 2020 (if I would want an IOS device, which I don't), but I would never ever buy a S8 smartphone now. Even though they both cost the same and they both are capable phones.
I would rather buy a new Samsung phone (low-end or mid-range) and change it every year, than buy a 2-3 year old flagship one.
