IpsDisplay, 07 Apr 2020By the way Can someone explain to me the difference with a 1 inch diagonal Vs manufact... more1" does not refer to the size of the sensor, it is instead a "type designation". The 1" refers to a certain size of TV camera tube, of which the usable image area occupied the inner two thirds. The use of such cameras is completely obsolete now but the sizing system remains.

1/3" = 17.3mm3
1/2.3" = 28mm2
1/1.7" = 43mm2
1/1.33" = 72mm2

1" = 116mm2
M4/3 = 225mm2
Apsc = 368mm2
FF = 862mm2
Medium Format = 1800 - 2200mm2

The best proper digital camera in the world probably doesn't have a sensor with more than 100MP resolution.

I wonder what these manufacturers are thinking....

I didn't know I needed a 196MP camera on my phone until now. Bring it Xiaomi, I know it's you.

If it's not Samsung or Omnivision, only possibility is a major Sony offence, but I doubt it. Most probably this is fake.

I would actually rather see 192 bayer instead quad bayer.

Then you can map 4 bayers (2greens, 1red, 1blue) into 1 full colored pixel and get 48 full color megapixels without need of interpolation.

Just my 2 cents.

sirozan, 07 Apr 2020Crazy how not too long ago we all thought the Megapixel race ended at 41MP with the Nokia 808/... moreWell, also a few years ago 6" screen was considered too big, yet this year the smallest flagships are above that size.
Times change, not always for the better, unfortunately.

You can let anyone throw in as much megapixel as they like, and it would still never beat a camera sensor with native megapixel, large native pixel and oversampling. To this day, I have never been impressed with any Quad or Nona Bayer pixel binning sensors when it comes to detail quality and purity.

P.S The only pixel binning sensor that is yet to see real-life action is OmniVision's OV48C sensor. But I doubt if anyone would be interested in taking a third-player party into the mix.

umeshk, 07 Apr 2020These binning sensors are diseased with autofocus issues. They just can't focus properly. Even... moreYou have sinned by implying that binning sensors can't focus

You musty repent

Read this HOLY language/scripture:

"octa-phase detection autofocus technology"

"Omni-Directional AF "

Used by the most honourable Huawei p40 pro and oppo find X2 respectively

Both uses bining

Both focusing properly

But you use shamesung S20 ULTRA as your reference point:

With focus so bad they need millions of camera updates

Confess your sins it's not too late

Can't wait, more megapickles always and undeniably equals better performance.

Couple that with mid-range SOCs that, and don't take my word for it, listen to expert reviewers, have the same performance as their flagship counterparts (tested by loading up Instagram and Spotify), and you have amazing phones like the well balanced Mi Note 10.

Also, please include 6 additional depth sensors, they give an instant boost, just like decals do to cars.
