If the market trends to fully wireless, wireless-only charging, wireless headphones, the need for physical ports goes away.

Not sure how this design would allow for the SIM tray though? Flip out at the rear?

MR45, 08 Apr 2020Let me clarify my point to avoid misconception. When I say INNOVATION, it means something new ... moreMaking more advanced displays is physical innovation. At some point we will eventually have pure screen phones. This is one innovation closer to that. The Galaxy Z Flip is one giant leap towards fluidly resizable phones.

When I say INNOVATION, it means something new begin to exist that was not there before. For example, from keypad to touchscreen, that is innovation. From non-camera phone to camera phone, that is innovation. You create something useful that was not there before. But when we say from bezelled to bezel-less phone, is that an innovation? I don't think so. Is a pop-up selfie camera an innovation? No, because selfie cameras already exist. You simply change the design or mechanism. It is not as innovative as from a phone without a selfie camera to a phone with a selfie camera.

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2020Oh dear god have mercy, when they will stop this? There are literally not many flagships with ... morethe most simple surveys are the sales themselves, if a flagship sells 10 million units with a curved screen, and a lower model sells 2 million with a flat screen, then boom thats the survey done, its not accurate because some people want other things over a curved screen, but sales equal popularity, take the iPhone when it first removed the headphone jack, many people didnt like it, and they complained yet they sucked it up because they wanted an iPhone regardless even though there was better models with a jack, apple goes on to see 60 million+ handsets, so apple thinks ok, removing the jack made zero difference. perhaps a weak analogy but thats how it seems to be

Please remain to use like the screen on S20. It is so nicely 'curve'. Does not look over curved like previous gen or mate 30 pro/p40 pro

When there is nothing else left to innovate, manufacturers simply change the phone's design. People would then consider it as "innovation" which may prompt them to buy.

Smartphone designers design their phones for their intended markets. Samsung's primary market is USA where Samsung's market research has been aiming at. Samsung will not put out a phone with a quad-curved screen if such a design is not favorably supported by their market research in USA.

I see many people complaining about this, but this is only a patent. How many patents are filed that never see the light of day??

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2020Who the f gonna ask that From the market(s) where phones with curved screen (water-fall, etc) have already been sold in tens of millions units already since last year. Pretty sure some of the lower-priced flagship series will soon join this trend, since some of the phone-makers have been bombarded with such demands since the launch of P40 series just a few days ago.

The 'overflow' screen are the worse part of P40 Pro, now Samsung wants to implement it? Lol. They already made a great decision in screen choices for S20.

Smartphone company should back to the basic, on the things which will attract more consumers. Form follow function, not function follow form. Ditch all of these 'waterfall', 'horizon', 'overflow' screen nonsense & use it as excuse to increase prices.

Oh dear god have mercy, when they will stop this? There are literally not many flagships with flat screens anymore thanks to Samsung, can manufacturers run a survey or something? Everywhere everyone is saying that curved screens are annoying and pointless , yet they curve it even more, jezz.
