Jeremy, 10 Apr 2020DxO Mark : A71 < A51
Samsung : ???
DxO Mark : We've still got S20 being tested...
... moreHahaha! Exactly.
I've been searching for the longest time what RIGID, FIXED, SPECIFIC weighted percentages DxOMark uses for each photo performance item/category to arrive at that overall number/score for the photo result.
It's the same for the video overall score too - no specific weighted percentages are shown to determine HOW to arrive at the OVERALL video score.
Then there's the FINAL overall 'phone camera score' : overall photo and overall video scores combined to show a SINGLE overall DxOMark camera score. Seriously? Websites should stop highlighting these dubious scores as if they truly give an indication of RANKING in actual camera performance because they seriously don't.
So Samsung fans, Pixel Fans, Xiaomi fans, iPhone fans, stop quarreling about OVERALL DxOMark camera scores. They don't deserve any of your attention.
TBH Samsung phone cameras are quite meh, iPhone XR single lens shooter seems to produce much more pleasing photos than my note 10+.

PartTimePhoner, 10 Apr 2020I dont know where you got that from. S10 is exactly 2x the price of A71 here.Might be in your place.
AnonD-908380, 10 Apr 2020You mean they get the phones to test? Would you buy all those phones to do camera reviews? No ... moreNope. DxOMark really helps phone manufacturers get better scores on their camera tests by sharing important data that other manufacturers that don't collaborate with them don't get to have access to.
Anonymous, 10 Apr 2020How does the A51 fair? Is it's score better?Different optics and sensor configuration. A51 and A71 should not be compared directly. DXO's final score is not a rank on phones with totally different configuration. Treat it as a reference, not a rank.
Mr. Anonymous, 10 Apr 2020Something wrong with the review, A50 and A9 should have a much lower score or A71 needs to hav... moreDXO's Scores can only be compared directly to a phone with identical sensor and optics setup. When your expectations were based on camera systems with different hardware config, then what you expect is already faulty. Check the breakdown or even read the whole DXO article and you'll see what the A71 is lacking or even better at.
Jaeger, 10 Apr 2020An "objective" evaluation is still an opinion. Even the standards change as technology evolves... moreWhat's with you and your blanket statements? Objective evaluation results are still valid facts. The procedure are stated and the results are presented. IF users want to refute the bad part of the process, they could atleast point those out instead of just saying that it's just an "opinion". DXO's tests procedure and results are laid out in their website and it can be cross-checked by the user, it is verifiable at the very least. The logic behind treating an objective test procedure as "an opinion" just because it violates your firm beliefs has far more implications in real world, for instance, a certain politician can treat a disease's threat as an "opinion" even though test procedures from other countries tells that it is in fact high-threat. Just don't downplay the test procedure just because you couldn't understand it and you find it hard to interpret the numerical results. DXO's results does not indicate ranking. Thr breakdown and the data samples are far more important than the final score.

Even the standards change as technology evolves, and what is called good now could not be tomorrow. Remember that standards are made by people, and people, by definition, can't be objective.
Anonymous, 10 Apr 2020Exactly. Finally someone said it!I think gsmarena only wants something to publish. To keep the site updated. It doesn't mean dxomark is accurate or impartial. But right, many to be buyers will be influenced and will not research about dxomark and have blind faith.

At these prices you expect more than a SoC. And add that anyways are inferior to those from Qualcomm that competitors use, even inferior to the new dimension from Mediatek.
But i understan that they prefer to put crap cameras on these so they can still sell their S20 now that they lack of extra features, if you remove the cameras from them, there is nothing extra in those overpriced phones. But at mid range there are a lot better alternatives to choose and a lot cheaper or a lot better at the same price.
