Glass, camera, chips , screen etc do not come from China.
Samsung Semicon is n Korea, Samsung Display too (part of it).
TSMC does Snapdragon in Taiwan, not in China.
Exmor is made in Japan.
Battery is made in Japan
Corning does not make the glass in China.

Sub 6inch is a market, may not sell as well, but they do sell.

Guru, 10 Apr 2020If it is made in japan and screen size below 6 inch I'll buy. All of the components are sourced in china and korea.
So it is just a china/korea phone with japan brand sticker.
It's a sony.
So no one will buy it.

True. You also could have mentioned that the Chinese manufacturers, Xiaomi, OPPO, and OnePlus have in 2020 reached almost pricing parity with the big guns at Cupertino (USA) and Suwon (South Korea).

Enter stage left, Microsoft... (I can only but dream...)
This will be an instant buy if true. I'll be looking to upgrade my XZ by the time this "5 II" comes out.
Sub 6"? Yes, yes, yes! Just make sure it's OLED.
Still its too big.
Would like to see and have palm palm phone with latest specs and 5G modem inside.
This brick is too big.
I'm still waiting for new smaller device. Since the compact line died there is literally no offer for me. There is no phone that would fit me. The smallest phone on the market now is Samsung S10E and that is all. Nothing. And I still believe S10E is big(ok, large).
No, I don't want iPhone!

Samsung s10e failed selling when everyone thiught it would be the best seller of the trio.
At some point of 2018, xz1 was top5 sellers in Japan, while XZ1c was not popular.
Compact has higher R&D cost and lower volume sales. That is why they gave up.
Guru, 10 Apr 2020If it is made in japan and screen size below 6 inch I'll buy. Sony factory is in Thailand.
But project is in Japan, no longer in Sweden.
Just what people needed. Not so sure about mid range processor. Should have tried with flagship just like compact series
If it is made in japan and screen size below 6 inch I'll buy.
Fearghast, 10 Apr 2020As an Xperia 5 owner I would really like better Xperia 5 than the huge brick 1 II. Either way... moreAgreed. Smartphone manufacturers don't realise how many holes are left in the market. With Huawei out of the picture, in Europe, Pixel being lacklustre, HTC gone, Nokia on mid range duties, there has never been a better time to sell into the market, Covid-19 aside. Personally, a 5.8 inch, and a 6.2 are all we need. Have a 6.5 with a stylus, jobs sorted. Keep away from folding.devices. sorted.
Anonymous, 10 Apr 2020Add a great set of camera and at least 4 000 battery and you got me in! Enough of the hugeness... moreIf it is smaller with 1080p, of course it wont have more battery than the 4K device.
donutistasty, 10 Apr 2020Japan decided to move all factories out of china. Probably Xperia 5 III made in japanXperia are made in Thailand exclusively.
