it is cheaper to game on a PC as the games on launch are generally cheaper by by $10-$20 on average, as well as having a very large list of free to play indie games.
and there is a hell of a lot more you can do with a PC.

It's smarter to built a 700-800 euro... moreIf you're talking about free old PC games, then you have to be fair and compare them to cheap older PS5 games (in time), and any supported PS4/3/2/1 games (haven't paid attention to backward compatibility on the upcoming consoles). If you're talking about 'freemium' games, you should be ashamed of yourself. If you're talking about piracy, you're a leech and the reason so much of the industry has gone that way.
in germany for example, in 2013 it was impossible to buy a PS4 at any retailer. the stock that came in was sold. there were waiting lists.
i bought mine only in 2014.

They eventually caught-up with the reality that allowing to run Linux was costing them money, hence they removed that feature (only then the hacking to get Linux started).
Truther, 17 Apr 2020A 800 euro PC won't do native 4K@120fps, bro. Gears 5 already runs at that on Xbox series XI think you don't know what upscaling or quality settings are. You can't even get 120fps in 4K (ultra settings) with a 2080ti, which costs 1500 euro.
Funny you think a 500 dollar console will achieve that. It will do that only with crap quality settings.
thinking this again, the specs of this gen would male a decent PC at regular console price (450-550). i wonder if people will pull a ps3 again and hack the system to run linux or windows and use it as a bargain pc like they did with ps3 supercomputer clusters. itll cause the makers a big loss. maybe thats why they are doing limited runs scheme
No doubt they will sell on Ebay for £3000 after launch. and yes mugs will buy it, its called capitalism make something everyone wants, then limit the supply create pandemonium and watch the big bucks role in. Its PS3 launch all over again
Mikele, 16 Apr 2020I do not understand all these price complaints, given that people give $ 1400 for a phone whos... morePhone is more essential to people when consoles. I think 500 dollars is most people will spend on consle, considering rumours was more in line with 400 or less price. But considering hardware, I am not surprised they will charge 500, it is very potent and defibitely expensive

[deleted post]It would be silly to assume everyone like the person you replied to as a lazy person. Remember for some of us not into the poverty line, some people/peoples' dreams were sacrificed to get where we are today.

PC gamers should be thankful for console players because they do not have to upgrade more often as devs are targeting even non high end hardware. Good to see even AAA steam games having lowend support.

Not to mention, that in my first years of gaming (through high school and university) I never once pay for any game.
And I had everything from PC gaming (in the first years), gaming laptops, consoles, portable consoles. And I considered myself a gamer, in the past.
Yeah, is true console games are more expensive, but you don't need the latest games every year once they appear. You can enjoy games even from 2013 (talking consoles), and those games cost almost nothing. Also, for example, in the country where I live now, there are gaming shops where you can swap games (console games), with cheaper money than the new ones. You can buy a nice game (from 2018-2020) even with 30% discount. Older titles even cheaper.
So, there are alternatives. Also, is far more simple to buy a console and just insert a disc and play, than to build/buy a PC and face all the challenges that come with this. Where even a small compatibility issue between 2 components can make you not enjoy the games fully.

Everyone's arguing about PlayStation 5 and I'm just here looking at that typo in the title...

Anonymous, 16 Apr 202050 euros a year for online and nearly all games 60 euros. It's smarter to built a 700-800 euro... moreI'm relatively smart, but my console is played by everyone in the house, on my big TV. I pay significantly less than 50 Euros per year for online. In fact, I got Game Pass Ultimate (includes Gold) for 2.5yrs, for less than £100. I also get around £5 back from rewards, which I buy games with. Now I could buy a gaming PC at £800, but then I'd need a large monitor. The living room TV is essentially free, as I already have it. Plus, I love gaming from the settee. I suppose I could run a PC into the TV, but I can't very well use that for the work stuff. Horses for courses.
Those thermal problems of the PS5 are not looking good... after the debacle of the Xbox 360, i swear never again for an overheating console.
Anonymous, 16 Apr 2020Well. Comparison may be stupid. But one thing he said right. It will survive longer and if you... moreIn turn, you are completely missing the business model. Unless you're Apple, when a costumer buys a smartphone he is not locked to buying any extra stuff from that manufacturer (i.e., there is competition afterwards), hence the smartphone manufactures needs to put everything in the price of a "one time purchase".
Consoles are NOTHING like this, as the hardware is just a means to sell you more stuff within a closed ecosystem. Want a game? The console manufacturer gets a fee. Want to play online? Pay the manufacturer for a subscription. The money making happens *after* the sale, and you cannot escape paying more to the manufacturer (i.e., if you buy a PS5 you cannot chose between Sony or Microsoft, only Sony *can* sell you the services and games for the PS5 -or- any 3rd-party will have to pay Sony a fee for the privilege).
The real issue is two fold: (1) manufacturers have learned that losing too much money upfront will hinder their performance to shareholders, (2) the COVID-19 and its effects over the economy are a show stopper for any "loss leader" operation, such as selling many units of a console at a loss, recouping that loss later.
With that said, despite all the unlikeliness, I really think that if there ever was a good time for Microsoft to be aggressive with their pricing, this is it.
