PartTimePhoner, 24 Apr 2020Something only apple can do. No one would go buy a SD865 powered S7 Edge And something apple fan would buy..
In my opinion primary things which make the difference in a phone is SoC and OS. If these two are updated then lots of things work.
We buy a latest phone because - latest release will have latest OS, and latest SoC.
Camera modules, battery and screen and all comes later.
I know many won't believe me, but trust me if someone tries to sell an old phone with replaced camera modules, beefier battery and improved screen BUT keeping same old SoC and OS, how many would buy?
Apple has done exactly opposite. It has kept most of hardware same as iphone 8, but only changed the soul elements of the phone - SoC and OS. And it seems it will work for them.
They know there are hardly any competitors in compact flagship segment. Pixel4a will compete but it's biggest drawback would be - not using best of available SoC i.e sd 865, though providing latest Android version.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2020So basically which part of Iphone 8 can replace iphone SE part? This is good for long term btw..Almost anything except the motherboard, battery, and rear camera, from the video at least.
Most of the parts are recycled from iPhone 8. Camera is from XR. And the processor is of one generation lower speed than iPhone 11. Good logic by apple to sell old phone in new name. Better to invest in something like Realme X50 pro/ 5G or oneplus 8 for a smart user in the same price range. But this phone is ideal for kids, old people and non techies.
Using same components allows apple to use the pre-existing machines and thus, saves money. And this is the reason why the iPhone SE (2020) is so cheap when compared to it's bigger siblings. An under-clocked A13 processor also helps to keep the costs down.
For many people, this is the perfect phone.
Not too large, decent camera, good design and finish, and great support.
that is innovation. recycled almost 90% of the old parts ( iphone 8 model ) laying at the factory to re-use, to save time and money very innovative lol no need to think twice or use engineering new design. Maximizing profit margin for the old parts.
This was not a surprise. It's obvious that the parts fit, it's how they do business :))
This SE is about 479E in my place, which is too high imo.
Interesting article. It's amazing how some companies can sell you a phone from nearly half a decade ago, with just a faster chip, and get away with asking ~500 euros for it. Fascinating, impressive and sad at the same time.
