I bet this must be from Xiaomi's MIUI. Not that I'm concerned by it since I have Sailfish OS installed on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

Anders, 01 May 2020Chrome tracks you a lot too. I use Brave as my main browser with DuckDuckGo search as it's ver... moreYes but xiaomi takes it to a whole new lecel, they even track what apps you open. While Google can be simply swapped for duckduckgo, and any anti tracker will do the job. Wonder where are the xiaomi fanboys now.

I don't understand the hype with this article. The same journal, Forbes, wrote an article about Google and iPhone collecting data from users, the same journal, and, no one didn't care about that.

more than that, 01 May 2020Guys, it's not just Xiaomi's browser, it's the whole system that collects is data without cons... moreApple, Google and MS all also send telemetry data to their servers via their OS. Xiaomi seems to be sending more identifiable data from its own apps, but that's all we can conclude. Also, GSM Arena added the part about data being sent even if you're using the DDG browser, while the Forbes article is only mentioning the DDG site, when accessed via Xiaomi's browser. Lot's of misleading info due to the way GSM Arena misinterpreted the Forbes article.

Not that we should take anything coming from Forbes seriously, but there really isn't anything new here.

We know the vast majority of software does telemetry, software developers who don't just can't keep up and the businesses surrounding their product quickly die. What's important is how the telemetry is done. Is it anonymized, can users access it, and how long is it stored? Xiaomi operates in the EU so they're bound by the same rules as everyone else. Trying to claim that their behavior is worse than the others is mostly fueled by xenophobia and chauvinism.

Also, base64 isn't an encryption algorithm. It's simply a way to encode binary data into alphanumeric character so that it can be transmitted more easily. It's not like they tried to encrypt the data and failed, they're just not encrypting at all.

At this point we're used to reading this kind of drivel on Forbes, but I expect better from GSM Arena.

r, 01 May 2020Im not even surprised. This is probably why their smartphone is cheaper than others. Thing is. They're not actually cheaper anymore

Mi 10 is 800 euros and Mi 10 Pro is 1,000

Aww... where are all the haters about the bad NSA/CIA Android/iOS plot?

I just hope the good ole' boy who has exposed Xiaomi for its dirty tricks do not come up missing.

1st rule: Never use Xiaomi's Browser in a Xiaomi Phone.
Send all your data to the Communist Party of China is very dumb and very dangerous for every democracy.
2nd rule: If you need to buy one use the Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools to remove all the chinese bloatware. China loves dictatorship and tries to spread it all over the world starting from selling cheap crap smartphones with stalker software inside.

Guys, it's not just Xiaomi's browser, it's the whole system that collects is data without consent of the user. It's on another level. Not even comparable to Google. See the original Forbes article:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2020/04/30/exclusive-warning-over-chinese-mobile-giant-xiaomi-recording-millions-of-peoples-private-web-and-phone-use/#a2e060a1b2a7

This is no surprise, xiaomi, as an accesory of ccp, had only to goals that determine its very existence, data collection, and money collection, in that order, they lie about the first, obviously, as is their usual behaviour to lie about absolutely everything, at best in some rare ocassion, they bake half-truths among a bunch of lies

QQ, 01 May 2020how about google chrome?Chrome tracks you a lot too. I use Brave as my main browser with DuckDuckGo search as it's very similar in design to Chrome so it's easy to go from Chrome to Brave
