And I wouldn't say "all" phones look the same, if I ever said such thing it was mostly about all those colorful midrange phones from cheap chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo etc. - they indeed all look the same.
Except obviously for stuff like Dark Mode, there's been basically zero real improvement in functionality since Android 7. When they change things, they usually don't work better or worse, they just work different.

I thought people like you were clamoring for new designs because recent smartphones all had the same boring notched/pinhole style, the same old boring vertical camera arrangement, the same old boring interface... People whine about how everything looks the same, and when they're given something new and different they whine about how they're changing things just for the sake of changing things.
