Agree, even though a lot of the team went to Google, a strong nucleus remains. I have had some awesome HTC units. id love to see you make the comeback with some good phones an no glossy back. success will attract you the right company to grow. love seeing a comeback. Hang in there and punch high. no glossy backs... pleeeeease.
HTC already decided to take itself out of the mobile phone market by selling their R&D, their best engineers and their mobile phone unit to Google in 2017/2018. Since the completion of the acquisition of HTC's R&D by Google in 2018, HTC has been a shadow of its former self and I do not see that changing any time soon. I would have liked it to be different as I owned a few brilliant HTC phones with the SENSE UI overlay. The team that makes Google Pixel phones now were actually HTC engineers. The quality of Pixel phones can show you what they are capable of, but they are now working for google. HTC should surprise us by rebuilding its phone unit and start releasing good phones soonest otherwise, it's adios!
VR and AR are not really taking off, still more hype than substance. HTC's bet on VR is not paying off. Maybe a reposition towards IoT (Internet of Things) will open new windows, considering a technology war in the 5G space is about to begin.
I am rooting for this company to fail, for the C-Suite's golden parachutes to malfunction and for their bloated board members to start selling off immovable assets just to make ends meet.
While not solely responsible, this company takes the lion's share of the blame for ruining the recent VR growth by pricing the headsets to an extent that destroyed consumer interest in VR altogether. This company was the first one to jack headset prices up to kingdom come, once they priced the Vives in the 150%+ profit per device category...the rest of the clown car posse just followed suit.
As a VR developer who does both education related non-profit development and for profit game development...I can't put it in words how much I loathe this company for all the nails they so carelessly nailed into the already half closed coffin of contemporary Virtual Reality media fork. Worthless company, rotten leadership and the majority of their products are just garbage. This company should have closed down like yesterday itself.
Anonymous, 07 May 2020They already destroyed they own turn by declaring themselves as a Chinese company few years back.Did they? Shame on them if they did. And if that's really the case, then, they can disappear without even trying anymore.
Its totally a worst company i have never seen before .ots getting off automatically and also a very very worst mpbile in battery sector.even if they give free dont get
Too bad, for them, for us. Competition allways is good for innovation, for prices, for people who work(designers, enginees etc).

Too competitive. I'm just laughing at any Chinese vendor thinks the same *cough, OnePlus, cough* and Huawei without GMS.

My hopes have finally dried up too.....do they still even push updates for their devices out there?
HTC really needs to go back to the drawing board, to define what their brand is, their vision.
If they cannot even gain something in their own turf (Taiwan), they're a goner.
Surprise surprise, you release a handful of uninteresting devices at an uninteresting price, your smartphone department won't bloom in a highly competitive market.
Like, seriously, I just checked on the gsmarena's phone finder and it says HTC released 6 devices since 2019 - a few ultra low end phones with mediocre mediatek and few overpriced low mid rangers. It was never going to sell well.
Wait, HTC still exist? Do they make any phone?
I didn't see any of their phones in stores (including online stores) in the last 2 years. I live in Europe.
The problem with HTC, LG, Sony, HMD is that they still think that they can charge extra just for brand name. Only Apple and Samsung currently can afford to charge extra for brand name. The entry of Chinese OEMs have completely changed the smartphone market.
HTC has lost lot of time in taking action to stop it's negative growth. Only a miracle can save them.
Very first it tried being premium bracket player unnecessarily by pricing it's phones high. Secondly it never ever thought of mid and affordable segment products.
In current times market is flooded with affordable phone players. Premium players are already going strong with a new player One+ gaining rapidly. Xiaomi is doing well too.
With these in considerations, for HTC even if tries to enter affordable segment, it will have a tough time competing against OPPO VIVO REALME.
Under Premium segment, where it considers itself as a player, is already going to losses.
HTC has no presence in India, which is one of the largest market. I mentioned India specifically because it was India where One+ was able to establish itself amongst the premium segment and it has paid them well.
HTC never made a phone that is solid all around, always had big flaws Time to fold the tent n go away. Game over.
