An F1 engine have a really low piston travel distance as the speed is the main focus, the piston head is huge and those engine produce quite low torque, try using the same setup and switching from speed to torque and the result will be quite ineffective compared to other torque based engines, but if you could manage to do so, now you added many mechanical components and your engine is heavy...
Same with those sensors, you need an IR camera, an IR floodlight, a dot projectors, a regular camera and a dot projector receiver, your sensor will have so much to do it would be either extremely expensive or poorly performing.
Mainly considering that I am certain what is missing to make 3D facial recognition better is a UV camera and UV flash, and if I was to make my own smartphone I'd also add a laser scanner to scan with high precision a tiny part of the face.
You can have a single sensor used as main, telephoto, wide/ultra wide angle, macro and portrait because it would be all optic based, you need to make an optique with variable zoom (positive for telephoto and negative for wide/ultra wide angle) and variable focus (macro and portrait), but there isn't physically variable focus lenses on smartphone because of the lack of space.
Though a really long periscope could allow for that (and more) but it would cause a waste of space, in theory at least, but there are some tricks that apparently no one thought about that require to be used that are based on light properties that would make the periscope tunnel smaller without loosing quality.

By remapping the ecu I could rather get higher acceleration based on combustion ratio lower rpm and more torque or I could get higher top speed inversing some..

In an ideal world, yes, maybe, but with capitalism they only care about profits, and since smartphone have an artificial price inflation, the more components they put, the more they can add cost over their regular profits needs.
Anyway, multiple specialized sensors would always do a better job than a single one made for multiples things...
Like you can't make a car engine that try to be all power efficient, weight to raw power based on speed, and weight to raw power based on torque at once...
That's why there is road car engine, F1 car engine and race truck car engine, one made to do all those 3 at once will be quite bad compared to any of those 3 others in their respective specialty.

But too small sensors isn't always a good idea, ambiant light and proximity sensor shrunk because of the notch and hole trend and now smartphone are inaccurate and slow at auto adjusting brightness and sometime the proximity sensor doesn't work as intended...

Even the piece of hardware is also beyond its notch limitation. No so much but has.. So I believe minimize the border line of notch or whole bezel isn't impossible for Apple who spends so much in R&D.

At first you have to understand that I'm talking about recent era.. 2 Stave gave so many efforts for the company.. In early 90's they were one of hell company.. They were not the first, but tried something to do new.. Mac Mini was one copy paste of thin client and small factor together of 80's , 90's then 2000
Macbook is the highest sharing same kinda design since years..
And their transition were in 90's again ie. PowerBook.. And yes again it wasn't the first..

There is no way with all those sensors you can make such thin bezel while keeping cost down and sensor quality, I'll prefer 3D Facial recognition everyday over a thinner bezel.
A bezel as thick as the iPhone X Notch is still way better than the iPhone 8 double huge bezels anyway.

Anyway none of those things should exist, notch and punch hole are stupid anomalies of trying to get fulldisplay...
The best fulldisplay solution is to have a pop up where all those sensors are hosted.
Apple should have pushed the notch concept a little further and make the displays on its side black only available for status icons in whitish color, icons which should have been on two lines when a single one is filled...
So it would have been a bezel with icons displayed on it (as the notch height can't really be reduced anyway), meaning no ugliness as it would look like a regular bezel or with those apps that disable it :
And still have the space advantage that the notch offer by removing the status bar from the uninterrupted display part.
And when in portrait mode, simply rotate the icons but keep them there, the only fullscreen option should have been to dim or not (user preference from bright to off) the icons when a fullscreen content is displayed, and MAYBE allow those lateral display parts to have colors and being used as ambiant colors.
That would have been the way to go !
Well, I guess now I will give iPhone a go. I didn't use an iPhone since iPhone 7, I really loved the 5s design but those bezels were humongous.

Looool 3x zoom in almost 2021 1500$-2000$ phone. That is so 2018! P40pro+ has 10x optical (real optical) and it will be max 1000$

On iOS the top of the display is only for status icons while on Android it is both status and notifications, already the iOS one is just enough length wise to host all status icons, but on Android, we clearly lack space...
So Apple simply wanted to get as close as possible to fulldisplay, the front camera and the Touch ID large sensor were two issues, so the simply switched Touch ID for Face ID to remove the big lower bezel and they reworked the top.
The Apple notch is actually a bezel with display on its sides rather than a dent on the display, which is exactly what it is on Android, Apple put as many sensors as possible on the top bezel and took the available space for putting displays where the status icons would be displayed, the goal was to make more useful display room as the status bar is always visible except on fulldisplay apps, the fulldisplay room real estate is massively different between the iPhone 8 and the iPhone x :
Their idea was to put as much sensors as possible on a spot that doesn't block the display and move another thing that reduce display size at the same place, that's why the iPhone X notch is clearly an upgraded bezel.
Android phone makers quickly copied the large notch design, but it was a huge mistake as it seriously reduce the already limited space for notifications and status icons, they also only put few sensors on that notch, so it is clearly thought as the opposite of the iPhone notch : Put a dent on the display so we get closer to a fulldisplay effect.
But because it was hated (not that before Android brands made their notchs, the Apple notch wasn't hated that much, many actually liked it) and Android brand quickly understood that they needed to reduce its size, but rather than making a compact area with as many sensors as possible (they could have taken a thin bezel approach with many sensors aligned in a linear fashion), it caused ambiant light and proximity sensors to shrink, get moved under display or get removed and use camera to do their job, all of which being stupid and reducing sensor capabilities while augmenting the price (except for the camera one who doesn't cost more, but is even worse performing that the two other together)...
Then the notch got smaller and smaller, a single camera, tiny speaker, up to the teardrop notch with only a camera and possibly two atrophied sensors...
Then, they got to the step above and created the punch hole which is just a teardrop notch without the cutout.
And while Apple was all about making as much uninterrupted fulldisplay room while putting as much sensors as possible, on Android it have become letting something that have a negative effect on status and notification bar while causing all sensors to be gone and preventing any useful one from emerging...
That's why I hate the notch and punch hole on Android, it is stupid, rather than copying the concept of Apple, they copied the appearance, and rather than getting rid of it and getting back to bezel, they simply tried to fix it, the Android notch is an anomaly and the punch hole is an error !
And the trend is still going, now that the camera size that got negatively impacted with the attempt at making the punch hole as small as possible, everything they did since the beginning was to try making it so small that it wouldn't exist, but they didn't even consider simply not putting one...
Central punch hole look better in term of aesthetic, but practically speaking, it cut the notification and status bar in two, and this area on Android doesn't have a hard limit on the middle, I disabled my notch on my OnePlus 6t, so I effectively have a bezel while not having any interesting sensors, and my notification icons often reach past the middle of the display, clearly meaning that the punch hole interfere here, the most practical spot is top right and the smartest ever (and only) placement of it is what Meizu did with the Meizu 7, putting it on the battery indicator spot, that way it have the least space impact possible.
Of course you prefer bezel or fulldisplay, it look really unpleasant to have something in a display, a single little dead pixel on a monitor is already something that some peoples can't deal with, so a huge hole...
And well, pop up are reliable and have little wear, for 100 use per day, the minimum number of use (50000) give up to 5+ years of lifetime, and that's a minimum probably calculated, not tested, in reality, such system is the same as found in a CD, DVD, Blu Ray or Floppy Disk reader :
Yet, while on CD reader, it is often a plastic piece that touch the screw, they can last for decades, and they do lots of movements, often really quick and repeated, on Smartphone it is metal on metal and it only do a smooth movement, so don't worry about reliability or wear.
Video proved the pop up is more than qualified enough to be safe for the phone to make an accidental drop in water, it can survive way longer than that.
And for dropping the phone, not only there is a self retracting safety in case of fall, but also it is really hard to damage it, forcing it only make the motor spin as there is no physical thing that hold it in place, even better, it is spring loaded, so actually if your phone fall on the pop up, it will cushion the impact and may save your display.
And even if it doesn't survive, you just lost a front camera, the phone still work, you can still take selfie the old way with the main camera and the only thing you're gonna miss is the video call, livestream and filters ability, which can be actually compensated by buying such cheap accessory :
And the OnePlus 7(t) Pro do face unlock as fast as the Samsung S10 Pro and just barely get beaten by the Realmy X despite having to move the pop up.
So don't fear, there is virtually no report on pop up failure and everyone who have a phone with it is satisfied, and you get privacy !

Other notches has its own reasons too but not convenient.. I still prefer something notch like sony or full screen like OnePlus 7/7t pro although I don't feel secure by motorized popup hardware..
I want to see if there will be also an iPhone 11 Max, not the Pro Max but the regular Max.
