As a longtime fan of Sony phones (since the Xperia Arc to be precise). I'm ready to give up on them which is funny cause I think they finally got their act together but for too long have they neglected my particular needs. I wanted an OLED screen and optical stabilization. It took them many MANY years to get those on a phone but now it cost $1k. They're also always the last to add new LTE bands. LTE Band 71 has been on phones for 2 years and Sony STILL has not added it. Fast refresh rate screen is a game changer and wish they would add that too, especially if they want to price it at over $1000
The only ray of hope is that Sony Mobile which is now under Alpha Camera division, will hopefully pull out some sort of amazing camera tech (which is LONG overdue) but after many years of disappointments, I'm ready to move on. Think nothing exciting has come since Sony bought out Ericsson.
I bought a Sony phone for someone else relatively recently and the phone is quite good. I bought a mid-range phone for comparison and returned it the next day. The difference between a 3 year old flagship and a just-released mid-range device was rather significant - the old flagship was miles better in absolutely every way.
So my suggestion to Sony and other companies is rather simple: instead of releasing new mid-range devices, keep making old-gen flagships at the same price level. That is, if you want to sell more devices.
Sadly, your high-end devices will tank (stop selling all that well) but, considering coming recession, it will happen anyways.
Anonymous, 14 May 2020Xperia R&D is very heatlhy bringin in new stuff both hardware and software with every new model.and what are the "new" things that other manufacturer yet to have? other than insanely high PPI on latest flagship.
When they stopped releasing compact smartphones, i stopped buying too, like as much as half of their customers, if not more just looking at the graph.
My last one is the XZ2C and i'm not interested by their elongated stick TV remote with their ridiculous 21:9 screen ratio.
They canceled useful features like radio, double tap on the screen, 3.5 jack, sided FPS, compact form factor, omnibalance design , etc ..
It is clear that if Sony doesnt change its strategy then the smartphone division will be gone by Q4 this year. This company needs a proper comeback. Forget about R&D and those overpriced phones that they release only to end up with such mediocre sales. Sony needs to reimage its brand by providing affordable smartphones with superior quality and modern features that can compete with the galaxy A series and even the iphone SE 2020. But because Sony is a big company, which has never learnt anything since their mobile division's downfall started way back in 2014, it will swiftly follow htc while chinese brands will be celebrating.
makes sense, they haven't made an interesting phone in a while since their Compact series and since abandoning the only product that made them remotely appealing, they deserve to go under

I would love to hear that argument, I'm sure there is none but still would love to hear something that makes Sony overpriced but that same logic doesn't apply to others. Just don't throw in Chinese OEMs into the argument please.

They failed to create a branding with their flagship. Talk about mobile phone, Sony is probably not even close to the top 5 mentioned brand, even Nokia is ahead of them.
Sony should just scrap their whole smartphone division and concentrate on imaging.
No product differentiation but yet charging at premium for even lesser hardware. Might work for their brand 30 years ago, but definitely not 2020.
phones are really good and stunning. the problem is, its always late to come out of the market and on top of that, its too pricey. gone are the days when they can command high price tag because of innovations and stunning look. the "P-series" days. They were trully awesome. Today, everything is very generic and no substantial innovations to set them apart from the other manufacturers. I truly love sony but its too pricey :(

LG doing the right thing with the pricing of V60.
They noticed a bump in sales in Q1.
Sony Mobile will be extinct n a few years at the current pricing.
No amount of Sony Tro*ls on this site can save their demise
Sony has the same sickness as every other developed country - they moved manufacturing abroad. Used to be, Japan produced its own products.
I mean Sony releases like 2 phones a year, while Samsung and all other Chinese companies pumping out like 10+ different phones. Apple has a cult following so their numbers are expected.
Love their phones. Sad to hear this.
What other companies offer some professional manual mode, no notch or punch hole or anything gimmicky, squared off design (which is my favourite, they look classy), near 4k resolution and one of the few ones left with 3.5mm jack. Will buy 1 ii if the price drops.
Keep releasing the same phone for the past 5 years and wonder why! If you go back to your Sonyericsson Days ddiffernt form factors and designs. You will win. Play the 3 phones that all look the same but have stripped down features. (Budget Mid Flagship) sink like HTC and LG
every time articles about xperia come out... there will be many people commenting on it... i thought all of you are fans of sony?
be a true fan... please buy their $1000 flagship... not just for yourself but your entire family as well.... poor sony, their mobile phone division keep declining year by year.
the problem with sony is they tend to keep premium price for their product. . same strategy with LG .. having a good hardware alone does not make your product premium... it should be both... software and hardware.. sony software is bland ... it pure android with skin on top... no additional features .. if only they can optimize and customize it like oneplus... then it was good enough..
