Next in news: Apple moves from US.
Viv, 15 May 2020FactsFacts: we can live without Chinese products.
Those with apple devices will still buy apple anyway but it does deter people who want to try apple devices
and they say Trump is a businessman...
This is bad while Apple is trying to bring down prices by recycling parts to their new phones. I do not know how apple can counter this one aside from jacking up the prices.
I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this. Trump is showing off the hypocrisy in GOP's "laissez-faire" policies, twisting unrelated companies like ASML and TSMC, and knocking cadences and pricing off-kilter, mostly for the same nationalist, egoist goals conservative America has always desired. But could this be a good move ultimately? America can't talk when it comes to worker's rights, but moving manufacture out of China is an ethical move.
Anonymous, 15 May 2020and who gonna buy the Iphones.. if massive price hike ... lose most the users..The iFans will still buy them.
Will the Apple fans be shooed away from buying future iPhone models for additional costs that they should shell out or will they buy it even more since it'll be Made in USA and not China anymore?
Anonymous, 16 May 2020That will not affect others. That will only make those that manufacture there less competitive... moreAnd who knows if 400 dollars for each phone in the most expensive models. But anyways is a matter of time watch the result. I'll not pay more due to USA production, i'll simply choose manufacturers that don't charge extra cost and offer better prices once that happen.
Raky , 16 May 2020I don't think so. For example, if Apple's cost per unit would be $100 more, once when product... moreThat will not affect others. That will only make those that manufacture there less competitive outside USA, so worse for them. Lower sales and more people shiftting to cheaper phones from other brands. The majority of them will simply ignore that market because they will not have enough money to invest there. Only few giants will manufacture there and maintain that production locally because export will not be profitable for them. The price will raise a lot more then 50 dollars, maybe up to 250 dollars more each phone depending the hardware... And probably the most sold iPhone in the future will always be the iPhone SE due to be the more affordable.
The free trade is collapsing...
The free trade only good if it's Am3ric4 first?
India also do the same things....
Add 30% tax for non made in India phone
Indonesia also do the same things....
Add 37.5% tax for non made in Indonesia phone
Indonesia even worse, Starting May 1st 2020
They block ALL IMEI of the phone that were not made in Indonesia
So, only made in Indonesia phone works.
If you bring/buy phone from other countries, expect to pay hefty tax.
Anonymous, 16 May 2020That will not affect other countries. The prices will be the same out of USA. Also USA citize... moreI don't think so.
For example, if Apple's cost per unit would be $100 more, once when production moves to US...and if they are selling 50M in US and 50M outside of US, they would rather charge more in whole world by $50 than just in US 100, to stay competitive with others on that market.
That will not affect other countries. The prices will be the same out of USA. Also USA citizens will have to pay extra money for make profitable the build of all that factories and facilities. But that is their problem and they'll have to magane with their own goverment when prices will skyrocket to maybe insane ones.
In the long run they'll reach a balance and that is all. They'll not export anyways as the products for foreign countries will still be manufactured outside or simply refused by other markets due to the high price. I can't see USA workers earning the salary of the Vietnamese, Chinese or Indians. Turbulent times for the American market loom over the horizon. Time to time...
This is not capitalism. This is dictatorship, even worse than North Korea.
Companies now than ever need to invest in Robotics asist manufacturing. If robots could assemble all parts of an iPhone, humans would be less involved in the process and no slaries would need to be paid.
I'm starting to see something in his madness.
1. That is probably the only way he knows to create jobs in america,
2. The only people who will loose on this are a corporate executives as they'll have to pay more for the labour.
1. Trump is a plonker anyways,
2. More jobs for americans!
Just like in old communist days, produced by the people and for the people
gorpalm, 15 May 2020Watch this Never happen. It's an appeal to Trump's core white working class voter base in an ... moreI agree... in an attempt to get reelected POTUS is simply saying things to get the vote.
Moreover, wasn't the original Google owned Moto X made in the USA with customisable colours and back covers for US customers?
Neither an Apple fan nor an American, but I reckon Apple can absorb the costs by reducing their profit margins and by shareholders getting less. But that's the stock exchange. Maximum return on stocks isn't enough. If we have more, then we need to see where we can make even more.
