AnonD-754814, 15 May 2020My bad. I didn't make myself clear. Why does the kirin SoC throttles more than the Exynos ?Well, it's hard to say since you only talk about "a" Kirin SoC instead of mentioning a particular one (like here, we were talking about Exynos SoCs with Samsung's custom cores). I'll assume you meant the latest one, fitted inside the P40 (K990 5G). I think it's due to the 5G modems because this article says that the K990 (non-5G) is pretty good at energy management (they did not test the 5G variant with their advanced tools): https://www.anandtech.com/show/15099/the-huawei-mate-30-pro-review-top-hardware-without-google/2

It's the GPU that's power hungry and produces heat and throttles.
Also consecutive benchmark shows Exynos CPU doesn't throttle, the GPU part throttles.

Besides, the Mongoose cores are what's slowing down everything. They're huge, ultra powerful... and ultra inefficient. They heat up and forces the SoC to throttle itself. Then, everything on the SoC, INCLUDING the GPU cores, would slow down. That's why theoretically, using standard cores would help.

But then again, I'm no Samsung Semiconductor engineer. I don't know what's inside the next Exynos. Neither does anyone commenting here. Nobody should take any of what's written in the comments too seriously. We're merely speculating.

And thanks for noticing. I wanted to use a shorter name. Nothing too illegal by your standards hopefully.

Doesn't the exynos 990 have a better and higher core count GPU

Even then it flops Vs 2019 mediatek's G90T

I'd argue that they would somehow make worse CPU

Using only standard cores, they'd be the same as MediaTek as far as performance goes. Therefore, going with MediaTek would not actually bring any benefit for AMD, only the same. In fact, by going with Samsung, they have guarenteed high margin sales (Galaxy flagships) + potential sales. MediaTek isn't exactly the kind of chip company you go to for premium hardware.

Of course, Samsung could screw up their new standard Exynos through other means...

Lu Weibing talked about "super performance, unexpected"... I wouldn't be surprised if this one beats SD768G on many things.

The dream would be the Av1 decoding...even if not up to 4k but limited to the max screen resolution (2520x1080)...but it's a dream!

AMD should be working with MediaTek instead of Samsung for their top-level GPUs, as it's pretty clear by now that Sammy couldn't design a competent CPU to rival the performance of Snapdragon chipsets.
MediaTek, on the other hand, can easily go toe-to-toe with their Snapdragon counterparts, and only losing a fair bit of points for the clearly inferior GPU, so if AMD were to partner up with them, then perhaps that could finally bring an end to Qualcomm's monopolization of the Android SoC market, and maybe, just maybe we can finally catch up to Apple's Ax Bionic offerings that Android devices have clearly been trailing behind for years already.
