Those Dimensity SoCs look impressive in spec sheets, benchmarked well, and most important of all, they received good first-hand feedback from the engineers who actually design smartphones using those SoCs. Except for the ISP of those chips, the engineers' feedback on various aspects of Dimensity series is very positive, giving the real credit to the MediaTek designers behind these SoCs. I will give more weight to these engineers' feedback than a review from Anandtech.

Here comes the ultimate test, the real world user experience of average consumers. Put these smartphones into the hands of millions of users, and we will know the result. If these SoCs deliver 90% of the spec sheet, I expect an avalanche of 5G smartphones based on Dimensity chips to come in the coming months. I would not surprised if MediaTek SoCs outsells Qualcomm SoCs in the 5G phone segment. (The initial engineers' feedback favor MediaTek's 5G solution over that of Qualcomm's.)

I have not seen 'Redmi Note 10' mentioned anywhere by the usual Xiaomi tipsters. It is still referred to as 'Redmi Note 9'. Wait for an official announcement.

Nobody cares about custom ROMs any more, it's 2020 and not 2015 with your [UNWARPED][REODEXED][4.4.2.102][352MB] Galaxy S1 Custom ROM.

That's the first point...

The second is : how many people install custom roms...1%? 2%?

Maybe Mediatek steals candies...it isn't even prooved!
...during that time Qualcomm murdered most of his competitors mobile activities (Via, Texas Instruments, ST-Microelectronics, Broadcom, Intel, NVIDIA...) since years and people doesn't care.
Are people brainwashed?

Ohhh I don't have my custom ROM...poor baby! Go and tell this to competitor's employes who lost their job!

Anonymous, 16 May 2020Why TF every time there's a news about Mediatek then suddenly everyone turning into a modder? ... moreMy advice : do real test to mesure the reality of cheating...
When the benchmark works properly, it's 1 to 6%...
Unfortunately, some benchmarks don't work properly...cheating repaire those one (PCMark)

Second advice is to test G90T's GPU and compare it to SD730...both are very close...

Anonymous, 16 May 2020Why TF every time there's a news about Mediatek then suddenly everyone turning into a modder? ... moreTrue.. We have to worried about custome ROM if manufacturer give the OS update slowly. For example, Meizu phone. So we can install custome ROM rather than crying for slow OS updates.

Many people / users don't know about unlocking bootloader and flashing custom ROM.

Why TF every time there's a news about Mediatek then suddenly everyone turning into a modder? Regular user doesn't give a F about roms, they just use the phones and change it if it's broken, software or hardware wise.

I don't like Mediatek because of 2 reasons. They were cheating on benchmark and the shitty gpu they use outside their flagship processor. Other than that they give pressure to Qualcomm on cheap processor with integrated 5G modem which is a good news. You guys don't want an increase on the price of flagship phones next year right?

[deleted post]Let's not treat context as the devil

You went as far as to compare a device that doesn't WORK by modern day usage .. a 3310 to somehow strengthen your argument... And add some political icing on top

And as for mediatek and gpl they have been called out more than once by the public. Samsung i9300 is a good referance point how much one can do with hacks/workarounds/shims when not having the a properly documented soc. Qualcomm on the other hand has the public code available for everyone to download, read, alter and compile.

Whithout cheating, this benc... moreThey even have GCam for Redmi Note 8 pro on XDA forum, every time a good Mediatek CPU news publish and they cry for custom rom and GCam but I belive it's lack developers interest on Mediatek devices is the reason because Mediatek devices are not so popular.

PlayerDead, 16 May 2020Mediatek are cheaters who cheat on benchmark tests, and they violate GPL rules. It's ok to... moreCheating problem?
Anandtech's review is based on PCMark only...
Whithout cheating, this benchmark forget using Mediatek's big cores! Yes you've read it! PCMark only use the weakest part of the CPU! Is it a way a benchmark should run?
UL Benchmark knows the problem since 2018 as I signal to them...but no update since August 2017! Is this serious?
Anandtech's author knows the problem and refused to do further tests! Is this serious?

About GPL...was Mediatek condemned?
The answer is no!
Mediatek provides code to OEM, OEM must provide code to the public...on devices sold in Europe, you know what? They do!
You need less than 5 minutes to find code from Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo...
Indian devs are able to do custom ROM on Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Here's why there's not enough competition!
It's Qualcomm's fault!
Not Mediatek's!
And it was prooven!
