Looks amazing and great specs. I wonder how the battery will perform. Cause my xperia 5 just 5 hours on screen time.

Vegetaholic, 27 May 2020The person is obviously delusional. It is definitely the worst flagship of the year with outda... moreI'm sure you have some certain taste at what you consider some image to be a good image and I'm not going to contest that cause that's personal but to say that something is technologically outdated or not good enough shows your lack of knowledge of technology behind it or photography/videography in general.
Camera technology and know how in Xperia 1 II is serious stuff that is super versatile and covers wide range of approaches to photo and video. I could understand that low light photography virus is still relevant and many judge image quality by low light performance (there is no single phone out there that can yield low light image good enough for anything more than Instagram or mobile screen) but that is just one little side of the story. Many enthusiasts are obsessed that they get evenly exposed images with no contrast, dead looking setting as they are afraid of deep shadows and bright highlights. Everyone is expecting even blue skies in all conditions so we have the situation when shot directly at the sun with iPhone that brightest hot spot in the world becomes minuscule white dot and everything around it is evenly blue with white/gray clouds while the objects on the ground are evenly lit just like if you would shoot with sun behind your back. To me that's the ultimate disaster cause sun is not one little dot that appears in the sky that has same amount of light at it's source and the ground but yet most of the phone manufacturers are abusing HDR image stacking and tone mapping like it's 2003. In my opinion that's a horrendous photography but it's a trend. That's why quad pixel binning sensors are popular cause they stack images natively within the sensor which is nice, problem is if you have wind the grass as well as the leaves would be out of focus. Now you wouldn't know they are out of focus unless you have something to compare it with and that's Xperia 1 II which is made to be ultimate time freeze shooter in the phones. iPhone 11 Pro landscapes look like a blur compared to X1 II when looked at 100%.
Sony brand is not for everyone, so keep going and take phones with,, better software'', 10000000 pixel cameras and whole other shits. This is a quality, impressive speed and with no bugs. Take a look photos and videos first and then put a comments. Thank you and have a nice day.
My Z3 is still alive. I was Sony fan but now I'm not a fan of a company. I will buy everything I like and can afford. Flagship phones are great but any midrange phone will do everything well. I suggest not to buy very expensive phones. Buy any decent phone and save your money for other stuff.
Keep on writing on 4k videos and screen size, and forget the phone part. My sony stopped functioning as a phone after a few months due to a broken sim slot. Sony couldn't care less.

It is definitely the worst flagship of the year with outdated cameras, useless 4k screen and gimicky software which I am sure will do avarage job in photos and so on as per usual with Sony phones, worst is price which is ridicolous for hardware you get. Sony drop the ball long time ago offering mediocre phones but charging premium

I struggle to find any real difference between 1080+ resolution and 1440+ resolution on a tiny 6.5 inch screen. The cameras are good no doubt but I have a proper DSLR when I want good photos. The mobile is to take photos of my food and maybe a few time pass photos here and there. So spending $1200 for a phone seems senseless when you get 90% of all these features at a fraction of the cost.
Yes please! Come on GSMARENA. As always #1 :)
I like this phone but the cellular bands on the 1 II and the 1 PRO are weird. LTE gets a marginally passing grade for an expensive global phone. Then there's 5G. Who's using those 5G bands?
I'm not sure what this phone is for. Sony says it's great for running the Imaging Edge Mobile app with Alpha cameras. Maybe Sony should fix that app because it hasn't worked in at least a year.
I like the headphone jack, memory slot, and camera. Give it more cellular bands and I might buy it.
Anonymous, 27 May 2020Yes, I just read that this Samsung sensor has a Quad Bayer array indeed. This makes it less li... moreIt's a custom modification of the sensor that is RGB and not original tetracell that's why app can't identify it properly. It's a garbage sensor anyway, images are too soft lacking details especially when shooting fibers and hair in indoor insufficient light settings. No where near iPhone 11 Pro but at least it's real optical magnification or hybrid unlike S20 which is all crop.
Sony is back to business..
Im back with more news, both Juan and TK (peoppe who got sent the 1 ii for review) are reporting 14mp images from the telephoto lens. Im even more confused now
Excalibur, 27 May 2020How can absence of headphones jack be a deal breaker... Deal breakers are slow chargers, short... morePeople have different opinions, deal with it kiddo. This is not like you are buying them their phones with your own money tho
Rameyuk, 27 May 2020If I'm not mistaken. The sensors used in Xperia 1 II is a unique sensor made specific for this... moreYes, sony normally use their own custom sensors for their flagship (main camera only tho). Like
IMX220 series for Z1-Z3+
IMX300 for Z5, X Perf, XZ
IMX 400 for XZs-XZ3
IMX445 for 26mm on Xperia 1 (sadly both the telephoto 52mm and 16mm U-wide used samsung sensor.. which is quite less superior)
IMX442 for 26mm on Xperia 5 (same samsung sensor for tele and U-wide)
And now for the mark 1ii, they use ne custom sony sensor for 24mm wide and 16mm u-ide, but same samsung sensor as xperia 1's and 5's for the selfie and tele
Such a relief to see a phone with the right size of bezel and no ugly notches and holes.
Damn, this is waaay to long for my liking.. Not much of an improvement from the XZ3's 18W fast charge. Why bother buying a new charger just for an extra 3W of power??
