The best and most complete phone on the market, if you no have money you can buy smartphones whith mediocre low-resolution screen, bad and boring cameras , Stupid clone design with hole and ugly back of square camera
Finally I was looking forward to the review and Sony next time can you please release your phone a few weeks after unveiling cause the hype dies
Anonymous, 27 May 2020I have just calculated that the pixel size of the second camera must be either 0.85 or 0.86 mi... moreActually the last sensor for the telephoto lens is a samsung sensor, sony uses two of its own sensors
Imx 557 for main and imx 363 for ultrawide, and the selfie camera too is a samsung sensor
I really like this phone, but I think flagship prices went crazy. 1200 euro, you can buy a very good pc. No reason for a phone to be so expensive. 800 euro I would reconsider
Anonymous, 27 May 2020P40 Pro performs 10x better than Mate 30 Pro ultra wide, using same sensor. It's all just a snake oil, they all still perform worser than old N808.
Shui8, 27 May 2020Bring it on, Sony. It may not become a low light camera champ (curious about their Night Mo... moreNo offense, it is ironic how you advance criticized the lowlight performance of this phone then you mention the fancy "night mode" as if it represents the final results of the lowlight performance of this phone.
Sorry Sony, too late, bought a ROG Phone II at cheap price ... Release your phone faster next time :/ ...
Anonymous, 27 May 2020It's all good but severely overpriced. Sony needs calm down and have a good look at OnePlus 8 ... moreExpensive yes, overpriced certainly not, technically it's cheaper than last year xperia 1 if you count the huge improvements over last year, it worth every penny i say.
Anonymous, 27 May 2020For people who are interested: Sensor diagonal at 70mm = 43.267mm / crop factor = 4.296mm ... moreSo it's likely that the 12 megapixels are related to the full sensor area, which means that the sensor has the typical 1.0 micrometer pixel size. This means that the sensor only has (8.86 x 1000000) micrometer² / (1.0² micrometer² per pixel) = 8.86 megapixels at 70mm

Anonymous, 27 May 2020I have just calculated that the pixel size of the second camera must be either 0.85 or 0.86 mi... moreFor people who are interested:
Sensor diagonal at 70mm = 43.267mm / crop factor = 4.296mm
Crop factor = 70mm/6.95mm = 10.072
Sensor area at 70mm field of view = Diagonal² x cos(arctan(3/4)) x sin(arctan(3/4)) = 8.86mm²
Pixel size = sqrt(8.86mm² / 12000000) = sqrt(8860000 micrometer² / 12000000) = 0.86 micrometer and if the resolution is 12.2 megapixels instead of 12.0, then sqrt(8860000 micrometer² / 12200000) = 0.85 micrometer
"flatter sides"?! nice... now that is a great follow up for my z5 premium... yohooo...
though im not sure if i can take advantage of the cinema pro and photo pro... is there a photography class on youtube?
Anonymous, 27 May 2020P40 Pro performs 10x better than Mate 30 Pro ultra wide, using same sensor. I would say P40 Pro performs better than Mate 30 Pro in some area, such as when it comes to lens shading correction, but image quality wise definitely not 10x better like you claim.
If I'm not mistaken. The sensors used in Xperia 1 II is a unique sensor made specific for this model. It's a different sensor from the ones Sony supplied to other brands.
I have just calculated that the pixel size of the second camera must be either 0.85 or 0.86 micrometer, if you would really get 12.0 or 12.2 megapixels at a 70mm field of view with a 6.95mm focal length (focal length of the exif data of dpreview's sample images) . As far as I know Sony doesn't produce sensors with 0.85 micrometer pixel size, so this makes it very likely that Sony's specs are wrong indeed and that Sony crops a 12 megapixel sensor, so you only get 8 or 9 megapixels at 70mm.
Anonymous, 27 May 2020Not good hardware?
Ultra Wide uses imx363. Same camera of Pixel 4.
Imx555 (Samsung) and... moreImx 689, imx 700 on Find X2 pro & p40 pro respectively are much superior sensor than imx 555/557.
The upcoming Samsung GN1 sensor on vivo X50 pro is also much better than HMX/HM1 as well as IMX 557/557.
