uhhh... let me guess... continuous innovation and being a leader in photography or is that wrong since they're already doing market best photography(in most cases) with their current sensor as you say?

Go search Google and u will see the solution many places.

Nobody is forcing you to use it only for 2 years and throw it away, you know. Unless you're a type of person who is obsessed with getting the newest phones at all times, you can use it for 5 years, or actually as long as you wish.

all nice and dandy, but... at what price? i mean: money price. the p40+ is already MUCH more expensive than a good quality compact camera (canon g7 series, sony rx100 series, etc). true, a compact camera is not as compact and has no phone capabilities and all else that makes a smartphone, but not to forget that the whole rage about the huawei p20/30/40 smartphones is about the camera, not about the "smartphone" side that, honestly, is not exactly something to write home about.... so why should i pay every 2 years some +1400eur for a less performant camera with, again, a phone extension instead up to some 1200eur for a better real camera i can use for min 5years?
now, let us be honest: the whole huawei camera smartphone rage is for the general population users, not that much for photo enthusiasts and probably not at all about the profi's.

I smell BS from this news.
First of all, Huawei updates the main sensor every year with the introduction of P series. Mate 40 Pro, on the other hand, is rumoured to have an improved UWA camera with larger sensor and wider FoV, and they will definitely use the custom Sony sensor for that as well.
After all, IMX608 on Mate 30 Pro/P40 Pro is what makes it possible for those phones to carry out 1920fps super slow motion and extreme high ISO video recording in low light.
Even though Samsung's HMX sensor would probably work out better for still image capture, its slow readout speed and smaller pixel size mean keep those special features on the new phone would be impossible, and Huawei probably wouldn't be able to afford to lose two of its main selling points at once.

There is no 108mp sensor from Sony as yet.
Nor do they have any plans for 108mp sensor in the pipeline.
So take this news with a pinch of salt.

Will this be a step back in photo quality as the p40 pro was? Just compatr the images of p40 to mate 30 pro 5g, but every review site is comparing it to the p30 pro, even though the mate was a HUGE leap
