Looks like snapdragon 600 series reach it's peak.
It's at number 690. Maybe this is the last and the best 6xx soc.
Or not? What's next? 695. 695+?

Viper, 17 Jun 2020Read my every comment and then judge me.No its fine they have 4big cores thats not the problem... moreSo you mean mid-range chip can't provide flagship performance? Maybe not the same gen to gen, but D820 can match close to SD855 except for GPU department. People say its mid-range largely because of the price, and price of the handsets they are in.

Secondly it is pretty much proven that 4+4 cores setup is as efficient as 2+6 cores (855, 7nm vs 730, 8nm). 855 have a tiny edge with 7nm vs 8nm, but battery consumption wise they are close or even ahead. Don't believe, go compare K20 vs K20Pro, both are identical except for the chip. So this pretty much made your argument of 2+6 being not efficient as 4+4 invalid.

And btw, mid-range chip is mid-range because they often use slightly older process to manufacturer and not with the latest features. It is not due to using poor thermal paste...
New process means higher chance of failure, or in other words, manufacturer charge a premium to cover the failed chips.

Viper, 17 Jun 2020Read my every comment and then judge me.No its fine they have 4big cores thats not the problem... moreTheres no problem putting little cores at 2ghz, its not like they are always at 2ghz. That extra 200mhz can help in getting a few more points in benchmark which is nice marketing i think.

But it all depends upon if you have access to 5G network. It makes sense in countries with some level of deployment.
In my country 5G deployment, even in pilot phase is more than an year and a half away. Still many OEMs are selling multiple variants of devices with only top variant having 5G. All variants run on same chipset. The devices are even marketed as 5G ready.

Viper, 17 Jun 2020And yeas what did u know about arm cores??.What u said that higher number means better process... moreBecause it's the case with snapdragon. New soc is always more efficient or better in grapich with soc. But they have different speed. SD 835 is still better than any of the soc below it. Except for the gpu I think.
I don't really know about all that. I'm an user.
But yes I think this mtk dimensity is a game changer.
So we can afford flagship performance and 5g in lower price than snapdragon offerings.

Snapdragon really see other competitor doing very well now they just announce many processor just for the sake of announcing it. Truth will remain 730g is good midrange device, 768g for 5G midrange device and everyone is expecting SD865 at 300$ phone. If this is possible then competitor will shut down their company. But looks like now Mediatek reach Snapdragon level and all processor is Kirin=snapdragon=mexiatek. They all are equal no one is better.

Where your reasoning might make sense is the efficiency cores, I don't have an answer for this, so I hope someone helps here, the efficiency cores are usually clocked higher in the mediatek chip sets compared to they're snapdragon counterparts, I mean A55 2Ghz gets almost repeated in every mediatek soc from the lower ranges to the higher ones, while this makes opening apps for the first time faster (not running on background), doesn't it come with and efficiency (also heating) cost?
