Crackling Doom, 19 Jun 2020Actually, it makes the most sense. 4G phones will have dropped in price, so they will be mo... moreNope, it is indeed doesn't make sense...
Why? because at that time (end of 2020), 5G phone will be more cheap, with more appealing specs; I predict that Dimensity 800 & 600 series (rumor said it'll be more affordable 5G SoC with appealing specs).

Ever heard SD800/801?

It was one of early adopter of 4G-capable modem and it was one of the most used SoC back then where 3G was still happening & 4G infrastructure was still scarce.

In short, it was all about future-proof.
To me, those people buying 5G-capable phone are not because of the '5G', but because the SoC itself is appealing; SD765 is quite popular, as it has #2 most powerful GPU.
The same also applied to Dimensity 800 & 1000 series; powerful CPU & GPU with the latest 7nm fabrication which ensure better battery usage, and affordable enough to be available in phone with 200$ - 350$ price tag, is no joke.

The question: anyone sane enough to buy 'near outdated' 4G phone which price will be drastically flop like 3G phones in the past?

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2020By the end of 2020 it doesn't make sense to buy 4G phone.Actually, it makes the most sense.

4G phones will have dropped in price, so they will be more affordable. Not to mention 5G needs a few more years before it really takes off. It makes no sense to buy a 5G phone right now (or near the end of 2020) when you won't be able to use the full capabilities of the phone. It's like buying a Lamborghini in a town where 40 miles per hour is the max speed limit.
