Elop wants Nokia shares to drop so that his former company--Microsoft--could purchase it really cheap. It's the heartless corporate executives playing with people's lives. Microsoft needs hardware and mobile intellectual property to compete in the cloud sector versus Apple's iCloud+iPhone and Google+Nexus. Nokia as the mobile hardware division of Microsoft.
Symbian was good during its time, when it successfully competed against PalmOS and even Blackberry--some would argue it was even better than the earlier Windows CE. To compare the old Symbians with current OS is foolish. The Symbian team could have created a NEW OS and still retained much of the identity and character of Symbian. People who say Symbian is crap, why don't you remember that Windows was worse? Now, you believe that Windows Phone 7 will be better, why not believe that a totally new Symbian (if developed) will also be better. The fact is, Symbian--not Windows, not Android, not even Maemo or Meego--is the life that runs in every Nokia hardware. See! The 808 PureView is still generating great interest despite all the bad stuff Nokia has done to it.
AJMAL, 18 Jun 2012everybody waiting for nokia coming with android. :)
Nokia has had massive declines in their market share and company value I grew up with Nokia and its a shame to see them a shadow of their former selves, Read and article recently
that stated they have lost a 259 BILLION dollar evaluation for their company since 2000!
Article is down below
Why dont they just create a phone model that can accept both Windows and Android OS?
MdN, 15 Jun 2012You know what... first I had an Ericsson... Ericsson is gone. Then I had a Siemens... no more ... moreBuy both!
Nokia had a good run, then they got complacent. Apple are doing the same. Samsung forever make their flagship phones with low to mid range feel in terms of the materials used.. I'm thankful for the Nokia from the mid 1990's; they were the Apple of their day with easy to use phones and not a severe line extension. None of these companies are perfect, but it is a sad time as I don't know anyone who has not owned a Nokia... it's the end of an era...
Nokia fan, 17 Jun 2012Now it's time to accept ANDROID and become TOP 1 againElop did the right thing here.
Thoses in the layoff from the executive side were
not believers in Windows Phone.
Windows Phone is what Nokia users want! and
only those that believe should have those slaes rolls.
Thank you nokia
nokia don't go for android its a worst os i have used android apps and windows apps the quality of windows apps is ultimate and in android very poor see yourself while you play a game in android os u may come across some ads thats gross. nokia just stick with u r programmes
I think things would have been different if nokia made Android as well as windows mobile Samsung & HTC both do and are definitely selling more android the windows os
In this fast changing world, especially when it comes to Mobile Technology, Nokia need to adapt and change too.
Smartphone is not only about making calls and receiving sms now. It's all about apps, apps and apps.
Why don't Nokia embrace Android ICS ?
Is it really so hard to acknowledge that Windows is not going to help save them in this Android and iOS apps world. Nokia is just too stubborn.
Open source is the future & no one can change this fact. Nokia should either adopt Android or develop their own open source mobile os. Closed source os like windows can never be a good option. Nokia should sacrifice their silly small girl like ego as soon as possible.
Its about time Nokia acts smart and come up with innovative products before they are completely ERASED off.
Problem for Nokia was changing symbian. Symbian is the best OS, super stable and with many applications. Moreover Nokia could release symbian compatibility with apk android. But nokia change to the worst market share mobile platform called windowsphone
