So Nokia is sticking with Symbian... Hmmmm
I bet Nokia will not axe Symbian after 2016.. (or whichever year was it)
look at Mr. Elope's improvement.
1st, Symbian, an OS has been on market more than 10 years, marked as burning platform and the service will be terminated by 2016.
2nd, meego, terminated after launching its 1st and last device.
3rd, meltemi, abandoned before official launching.
Very sharp progress graph. Keep it up Elope!
This makes it all but official. Nokia is now just a 'Bottom Feeder' manufacturer at the bottom of the market only willing to make budget phones for 3rd world countries. Why the hell did they stupidly commit to Windows without at least trying Android and seeing which system will sell the most phones, just like Samsung tried as many OS's as neccessary until they found the one that works best. Nokia will be just like Kodak before much longer. Innovators of the system that killed them at their own game.... ADAPT OR DIE
Gee... It l0oks like this Elop guy is targeting Nokia to be acquired by Microsoft.. And he's fr0m Microsoft right?!
He killed Symbian, and Meego.. Tss tss Nokia's going to be in Microsoft's hand just like Motorola to Google..
R.I.P. Meltemi.. and soon Nokia
it's been an honor stick with you this past decade
NOKIA, you once was the King of mobile phone, but you didn't treasure it & let others overtake.
Do some brave move (like SONY);you don't do, you will never know what will happen.
Why last time Ppl like NOKIA do much? (I ever owned 3 NOKIA phone over 5 years too)
Why now Ppl don't like NOKIA? Go do some homework.
You need some brave move to save yourself. No one else can help you.
They should have focused on S40 for the low end and on MeeGo for the high-end
thunderising, 15 Jun 2012Isn't there S40 touch already?
How many OSes Nokia will play and keep abandoning at the same timeThey already here.
Ch.Saqib, 15 Jun 2012Nokia is so dead. 1st MeeGo and now Meltemi. Series 40 and windows will not keep it alive for ... moreNahh ... for WP ... we can't be sure. They may or may not be failed. But for S40 ... there's still a lot of users that think they didn't need smartphones. That's where S40 came in. My experience, S40 still has higher satisfactory compared to low end android (when both are used as how feature phone used. Don't yell at me since there are a lot of people who regard low end android as feature phone where it should be low end smartphone).
I think Nokia's future lies more with emerging markets. The high end phones can and will compete with IOS and Android but their market share is already fallen. If they made budget symbian smartphones, they could compete with the cheap droids which are selling in emerging markets in the thousands. Most people in these markets are not interested in s40 or those proprietary OSes by manufacturers because they really suck. Why not give this idea a shot and see how things turn out. Otherwise, legendary Nokia is going completely down.
Ghost, 15 Jun 2012"More affordable Windows Phone devices like the Nokia Lumia 610 are also in the pipeline.... moreAnd what is EU commission have to do with this? Even if it's true that Microsoft is planning to acquire Nokia, That will not mark them as monopolist. And as long as they didn't abuse their patent (unlike certain company does), EU will not see anything harmful of this acquisition. If they allowed Google to buy Motorola Mobility, they should allow Microsoft to buy Nokia. Allow both, or disallow both. I doubt that Microsoft will buy Nokia though.
Beware, Ellop the great hunter is on the loose. Killing all existing OSes.
Nokia better go with meego.!!! Meego is linux-based os and android too is linux-based so it will be awesome face off. Nokia should make devices like N9.!!
Would have been nice if Nokia gave more specifics on why it has been abandoned in favour of S40. The fans demand that of Nokia.
Good luck to Nokia and hope these decisions help them in the future.
In less than a 1.5 years, Mr. Elop has managed to kill not 1 but 2 Linux-based operating systems (MeeGo, and Meltemi).
Hope you have as much luck killing Android (Linux-based), and iOS (UNIX-based) in the next 1.5 years.
RIP Nokia. I will sure miss you. Very sad days ahead.
Elop is a Trojan horse, it CAN'T get any clearer.
Get rid of the trojan horse Stephen Elop! He is a virus spreading from within!
Meltemi is not even born, too inferior than Symbian,wp.
Symbian has got more app support than meltemi/meego/maemo all put together.
its insane to develop/trust such an OS which has nothing useful to be focussed. Symbian from $10 to $100
and WP from $100 and above is a far good strategy.
