Anonymous, 27 Jun 2020By your contents you don't understand any better than the people that think mp means everythin... moreNokia 808 PureView has a 41 MP sensor (38 MP effective), f/2.4, 1/1.2" behind a carl-zeiss lens, still the largest one with larger pixel pitch. They never compromised with pixel size, no gimmick 108MP/12MP etc. the only problem was there was a 4p lens and ISP was not that advanced during that time. the comparison seems invalid.
After the Galaxy S20 ultra fiasco, I don't care anymore about pixels count. Samsung should really work hard on their software and A.I

Now 20-24mp at 1.4 to 1.8um...we might be talking.

Huawei P4... moreBy your contents you don't understand any better than the people that think mp means everything.
Yes clearly the 108mp nano Bayer tech is underwhelming at full res compared to what marketing has you think.
However to claim it is useless or has zero advantage shows you don't know anything.
The actual let down is that you can't shoot full res raws. At least not yet.
While still too processed....as of the 12mp options on any other device is any less processed.... the 108mp images still offer way more detail and work well in many situations.
It's the only time phones are starting to match my 808 on resolution.

Majority of users won't even use the "maximum" pixel output (48, 64, 108, etc). They will use the quad bayer option anyway since it produces better and more consistent image across different conditions. The thing is, a lot of people who don't know about photography will still believe that more pixel = better quality (they're not wrong, but there are other aspects that need to be counted as well). So in the end, 108mp with 0.8um pixel size will catch people attention than 12mp 1.8um pixel size
If this comes with the Exynos 992 in my country, I'll be tempted to upgrade from my S10/ROG 2 combo.
-Better looking compared to S20 family.
-Software improvements on camera front.
-120hz unlocked at QHD with Lower battery consumption.
-Much better cpu than Exynos 990.
But then other contenders like OP8t Pro will also arrive along with this.
Or I'll probably wait for SD875 based phone next year as both phones running Damm smooth without any issues.

Huawei P4... morelet me just note here that the most recent camera update on my s10+ is making me think that i have a new phone - it's that good.
i was also really surprised at the leap in photo quality (incl. telephoto) the s20 ultra has made since it was unveiled -- i only saw that bc they were comparing it with the new p40 pro+, whose 10x zoom was worse than the 4x s20's.
so a sensor is one thing, but the software is starting to matter more and more.

Now, Quad Bayer or Nona Bayer sensors aren't ideally suited to shooting in native resolution due to their pixel structure, so zooming in 100% in a native 108MP image will leave you unimpressed by the soft and blurry detail.
However, the images still pack far more detail than the downsampled 12MP files and if you intend to crop and reframe the shot later, it's far better to shoot in 108MP than 12MP.
Anonymous, 26 Jun 2020S21/21+ = 12 MP 1/1.4"
S21 Ultra = 50MP 1/1.3" Which 12mp Sony sensor is 1/1.4"?

Huawei P40 Pro+, 50 MP, 1/1.28", 1.22µm
Oppo Find X2 Pro 48 MP, 1/1.43", 1.12µm
Sony Xperia 1 II 12 MP, 1/1.7" , 1.80µm
Now compare your 108MP images with these phones.
Science of image processing lies behind larger pixels, lenses, software, etc. and Samsung relies on over sharpening, heavily noise reduction, artifacts which results oil painting like images. no matter it's 108MP or 8MP

Do you also hate magnets and 5G?
They should use a native 48MP (full native RGB pixels, with no quad-bayer) on that 1/1.33" sensor. It would have native 8K and better IQ.
