Re: 875 pricing,
factors that increase production cost - State of the art process node requiring more time per wafer. Larger high performance core + larger 'big' cores - larger die, fewer chips per (already more expensive) wafer. Projected performance increase vs competitors. Near monopoly on the Android SoC market.

While greed and a captive market are certainly factors, there are legitimate reasons for the price increase as well. Add to that the increased complexity of 5G modem/amps/filters/antennas and things get even worse. Hopefully Samsung Semi and Mediatek can win more designs in the coming years to put downward pressure on the discretionary portion of Qualcomm's increases.

$250 seems too high for what is essentially just a faster chip, almost a 60% price boost, but depends on what exactly will it pack!
Think about it, if it comes with 4K240 video recording, and maybe 4K960 short, 1080p960 unlimited. (Actually, Apple will have 4K240, that made me expect the same)

It still means we will be able to see $700 Chinese phones and around $1200 starting price for proper brand flagships.
Roughly in India, the Rs. 37000 worth IQoo 3 will cost around Rs. 45,000.

But wait... did we add that a flagship can't have even other mid range components?? 12GB RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 on the base version... All this will also cost dear!

"the company is expected to release a Snapdragon 865+ next month. It will increase its prime core to 3.09 GHz, quite a boost compared to the 2.84 GHz clock speed of the current S865 chips."
Quite a boost?? it's an 8.8% frequency bump! There must be architectural changes as well, otherwise why bother? I'm doubtful many(/any?) would be able to tell that one phone was an eleventh faster than another unless they were benchmarking.

Doesn't 100W give more problems than advantages? Price vs earned convenience?

Maame Raggae, 29 Jun 2020If it doesn't beat Apple's A-series chip, price is not justified at $250of course it is not going to beat, it is ludicrous to even think to sell chip for 250 dollars and not even fastest one, the world is mad

Game over, 250 dollar just for the chip with modems are they high? No wonder flagship prices are insane, FU qualcomm, people should stop buying their garbage, they want cheap phone with top chipset but crying if phone does, not have qualcomm, well maybe stop crying and support mediatek as this is ridicolous

Then, the 875 must provide another ~150-200K boost (over the 865+), to be truly a new generation chip.

I'm basing my assumptions on the X1's power, plus the rumoured price increase of the new SoC. Keep in mind that Qualcomm already knows the performance numbers and they set the prices accordingly, more or less. It doesn't make sense to have a small performance gain, but a ~65% price increase (even with the 5G modem built-in). They have to justify the price.

Road to the death of Qualcomm. Time for flagships to be reaching the $2000 mark. What will just make this useless is if the upgrade is not much. MTK time to flood the market.
