Easy, if you care about software updates or you plan to keep a phone more than 2 years, don't buy Android phones, especially flagship (being that you will loose even more money with these).
Also, if you want a second hand phone (which in my opinion are the best way to go, but to know where to buy them), buy iphones. Even a 3-4 year model, will receive updates for another 2.
The end.
Stopped buying samsung devices after the s7 since the exynos (only option available here in PH) fell behind the snapdragon versions. It actually narrows down my choices so no complaints.
-Oneplus (only phone here with the sd 865 unless you ship from the gray market) for flagship and Xiaomi for midrange and and entry level. Oppo/vivo/realme starting this year are priced outrageously for what they are.
this is why never buy budget phone or tablet from samsung coz support is very poor look at A6+ j4 etc 2018 releases but less 2 years but now cut off from support. samsung must be punish for this
Luxor, 09 Jul 2020As if your computers running windows ever receive update after years. Bet the license expired. My oldest desktop, a 4th gen Intel Core I bought with Windows 8 is NOW running Windows 10 and it is getting every single feature and update Microsoft is delivering. Seven years later. It's getting them the moment Microsoft makes them available, not whenever some arbitrary ISP, manufacturer and ultimately Google dumps an incomplete build on an internet server.
All other Linux builds you can install on any other device has built-in auto-updates. Android doesn't. Why? Because Google has agreed with the rest of the Open Handset Alliance cartel to enforce planned obsolescence of devices costing more than most laptops and desktop computers.
--voltaire9, 09 Jul 2020WRONG!!!!!! Samsung stopped supporting my Tab A 10.1 a long time ago It's still on Oreo ... moreJust today got what is likely the last official security update for the 2016 10.1 tab. Very impressed with 4 years of support and now will go down the third party route
potato4k, 09 Jul 2020Good. Samsung doesn't support poor people buying Galaxy S phones. You have to be rich and... moreR/gatekeeping and r/hailcorporate in one post. What a time to be alive.
Anonymous, 08 Jul 2020iPhone 7 plus (2016) is still receiving updates. 🤣Even iPhone 6s Plus from 2015 is scheduled to receive iOS14 update. Damn, Apple really makes a potent case for dropping 1000 USD on a phone much better than Android.
Anonymous, 08 Jul 2020They had the nerve to put out numerous products but not the desire to deploy security updates ... moreSince when security updates are important? If they were, we wouldn't have this problem. So that means they're not important. You are supposed to upgrade your phone yearly anyway.
Good. Samsung doesn't support poor people buying Galaxy S phones. You have to be rich and upgrade yearly. It's your fault keeping such an old phone around. It's better for Samsung to put their money on making newer phones.
--voltaire9, 09 Jul 2020WRONG!!!!!! Samsung stopped supporting my Tab A 10.1 a long time ago It's still on Oreo ... moreIt was bumped to Oreo? I intentionally left mine on Marshmallow because I had trust issues with system updates few years ago. Does it performs better with Nougat or Oreo?
WRONG!!!!!!
Samsung stopped supporting my Tab A 10.1 a long time ago It's still on Oreo too BTW.
Screw Samsung

Stef, 08 Jul 2020And it still is a piece of crap so what's your point. And yet it performs better than most and a lot of low-end and mid-range androids.

They had the nerve to put out numerous products but not the desire to deploy security updates to what will soon be zombie devices. To the landfill they go?
