Dataminer49er, 11 Jul 2020This bodes well for companies like Nokia and Samsung, but is meaningless to others like LG who... moreExactly, this is the problem with Android. One company is making the operating system, another company is making the chipsets and in the end the manufacturer company needs to figure it out how to put them all together without issues for the end user. No wonder the majority of times this doesn't happen and a lot of models have issues.

Now you understand why a 4 year iphone with 2GB of ram is working fluently with the latest IOS, but a 1 year Samsung with 6GB ram has hick-ups each and there. Yeah, I am talking from my own experience.

When will Xiaomi Mi A1 from Android One receive Android 10? It was promised two years of Android version upgrades, but they stopped with Android 9 after only a year.

All these companies talk their talk about the environment & electronic waste, yet practice forced obsolescence by dropping software/ firmware & security support for their devices.

If the XDA community can do this why can't Google android & OEM's?

Yes, android OS updates are nice to have, and their should be a minimum of 3, like Google & OnePlus.

But to me Security patches are the most important, there should be a minimum of 5 years.
We've seen Samsung S7 get 4 years, Apple seems to get 5, can android & OEM's beat Apple?, Yes, are they willing to??, Time will tell!

I don't want to buy or recommend any flagship with it's life cut short because they decide to quit sending security patches, when the hardware is working perfectly fine.

So OS & OEM's that lack support should be named & shamed, & credit, kudos, praise & recognition to those OS/ OEM's that keep their products & users safe.

You can see OEM's Android Security Support here:

Best Google can do is make the api's in the incompatible with older versions of Android, which they already do of course, but the oldest support version is usually about 4 years old at that point. Which is necessary as it takes different isn't different lengths of time to push out such updates.
